Chesapeake Holly leaves dry and yellow

Our hollies have looked spectacular all winter long. Recently, in MA, we've had some warm peaks w/some ice and freezing rain intermixing. I am sure most of our shrubbery is a bit confused.

Both our hollies suddently have yellow, very dry leaves that fall off if you touch them. The oddest mystery is that they are in totally different parts of the yard (so I am guessing it isn't a disease)-one is North facing in the front, and one is in our back yard.

I have looked up everything I can online and can't seem to get any ideas. I have ruled out Leaf Miners b/c I see no spots nor any eggs.

I was thinking maybe it just got dehydrated, but I sprayed one with anti dissectant and once all the ice melted, it made the ground VERY wet--its still nice and damp.
