Westerland

I had Westerland for two years, then lost it to a very cold winter without much snow. I had covered and wrapped it with the special blankets. It was such a spectacular bloomer all summer long, and gave pleasure to my neighbors as well. I am toying with the idea to plant another - wondering whether it would survive a cold winter more easily if I plant it deeper than usual so that if the winter is very cold at least there will be more of the cane left under the soil that will allow the rose to grow back in the spring. Does anyone know if this or something else would work. I have been browsing the Rose Gallery just to look at the photos of Westerland. Would like to have another one.
