Odd signs of spring, welcome nonetheless.

Only protected daffodils are showing color. Snow remained until this a.m. on the north side of the house. Cats aren't shedding. Dog isn't shedding. Neighbors' cattle and horses look scruffy, even the ones that winter here and summer in Wyoming.

But there are some signs of spring that are country. Maples are showing stem growth out in the woods, there's a faint red color at the top of the forest.

The county is doing something to roads and have left the big old metal trailers in one of our fields. Deer are changing their wandering trails and this morning came on the trailers. Freaked out deer: a different sign of spring.

Tree cutters are out clearing the new growth so windstorms don't take our electricity out; and they've stopped by to ask if they can dump gonna-be-mulch on our property (Yes!) and where would we like it dumped? Happens every spring.

Winter may not be over, but winter is loosing the local tug of war.

And a few roses leaf buds are swelling.
