There are websites with feedback on internet and mail-order vendors; one useful one is called "Garden Watchdog", I believe the site is davesgarden... Years ago Edmunds was a top quality vendor but they've been sold recently. The best bare-root source I know of is Palatine Roses. I think Palatine is related to a company I used for decades which in those days was Carl Pallek & Sons.

Edmunds used to be a family-run business. They were known for their healthy, grafted HT's. Many here used them regularly. My experiences with them were excellent. They produced a fantastic catalog.

Edmunds was sold to a larger corporate enterprise a few years ago. I have not ordered from them since, nor have I heard much from those that did.

Hopefully, someone with recent experience will chime in.

If they are the only source for the rose you want, give them a shot. I use to buy a lot from them when they were a family owned business. Haven't used them since they sold.

Thanks Harry, I received my catalog yesterday which is why I was curious as to what reputation they had. I did Garden Watchdog as I usually do and there weren't that many remarks but they were all good and they were from this last year.

Terry, I had just told April I wasn't going to order anymore this spring and just wait and see what our local vendors get because we have quite a few that get in nice roses. We just like to kid each other when we say something stupid like "I'm not going to get anymore roses". We both know it isn't so. ha ha!

Edmund's was sold to Jung's here in WI a few years back. Jung's is also family run business in a small WI town. The first year they took over Edmunds they hit some problems but seem to have resolved them.

Edmunds was sold to Jungs . I've ordered roses from both places over the years and have received good quality stock. Jungs surprised me in that the bare root I received from them was a big grade 1 bush.
I've heard nothing bad about either place since the sale. Give them a chance.

ahhhh yes.....the conscience is still lurking here and it's not looking good......

Confess up, Judy, did you send me that Edmonds catalog so you wouldn't feel guilty about caving in? I just got my catalog today and I really could use a dose of that conscience myself...there's a bunch I want too! Those blooms look so purty on a freezing day like today when I'm so homesick for summer.

conscience leaving in utter and complete defeat. Somehow knowing that it was completely in vain to even TRY to work on a brain so completely taken over with RM disease. Sad sad sad.

I ordered from Edmunds last year. Both roses were a good size and did well for me. They did have a note with the roses that some of the roses were very small that year and you could call them if you were unhappy, but mine were fine. They aren't my first choice for vendors but I was perfectly happy with the roses they sent. If you don't have Falling in Love then you should add that one to your order.

They certainly aren't the "old" Edmunds. But, they are trying! I ordered 3 roses last yr. They arrived I believe in January, which is normally a good time for me. All three roses died. One broke dormancy and then died, but the other two never did sprout anything... just dried up. I emailed them and they told me one of the roses was sold out, but that they would replace the other two. In March, I received TWO each of the two they could replace. All 4 roses grew and did really well. They also had sent me a gift certificate for the other rose that couldn't be relaced then, but I can't find it, so didn't use it for this yr's order. But that's ok. They made the others right, double! I'm happy.

I would have to add that there are many evil enablers here, but the Edmunds catalog was probably the major cause of my early excessive HT orders.

Now, I haven't seen an Edmunds catalog in a few years (not being into the HT's too much, I only ordered once, maybe I was taken off the list, given how much it costs to do that kind of mailing). But years ago I did buy from Jungs (three Charles Albanel for a tough spot, they were perfectly fine healthy plants, long gone now because of landscaping changes).
Maybe I should check out their website....I have begun to plant in big pots, easy to winter in a covered ditch, and so perhaps I should think about an HT or two or three...

Ah, yes, Harry, there are many helpful folks who are ever so willing to help spread my meager dollars around. I wish my glasses had some sort of 'evil enabler' anti-glare coating when I opened up posts with pretty pictures. It would also help if I had a modicum of will power.
