Late to the party

I have never not started my winter rose clean up by January 11th before, but that is the case this year. Once I start, everything else gets put on hold for a month or more, so this year I promised myself to get the other seasonal chores done before I start. So I am working my way through the list. I've been awfully busy in ways that don't show at all when I look at my roses.

House restored to order now that holiday guests are gone (done)

Christmas decorations down and stored (in process)

Prep for new native grass area (done)

New trees planted (done)

Fruit trees sprayed (later today)

I expect to be ready to start tomorrow, but a long anticipated rainstorm is coming in then. I don't mind. We need the rain much more than I need to start the pruning and weeding of my roses. A day or two delay won't make any difference.

Still, I have this feeling of being behind where I ought to be. Somehow I don't think my roses much care one way or the other. It is me who loves the tidiness of a pruned and weeded winter garden.
