Well, lilyfinch, I also do alfalfa tea several times per season. I usually do it after spring flush is over to jolt the roses back into flowering. Strangely enough, I do not find the smell foul or awful. It reminds me of farms and horses (and maybe stables.) Once I made the mistake of brewing a garbage can of it under our bedroom window. Still, we didn't hate it. The worst part for me is distributing it and being swarmed by house and horse flies in the process. I would never ever add the pellets to the soil because in my experience, some sort of fermentation occurs which could kill roots and plants. The hardest part for me is finding garbage cans in the yard that don't have cracks or holes. Last summer, I put a big plastic bag in one of the broken cans and it worked fine. I get two batches from each can. I do remember Pappu's thread--it is hilarious!

Congratulations on your success with rooting them. I've never tried. But I used to enjoy seeing them growing outside in people's yards when we had a house in Pt Aransas; and wow -- what a wonderful fragrance when the bloom!

Before the Q, I had many stores in rotation, each having something in particular that we liked. So I would regularly shop at eight different food stores: our local family supermarket "chain" (they only have three stores so I would not call it a chain per se), a smaller local market, four specialty shops (an organic produce market, artisanal bakery, cheesemonger, butcher/fishmonger,) as well as Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. It's definitely been disappointing to have that curtailed. Now, if I go food shopping, I try to buy for a week in that one trip. That pretty much leaves out going to the specialty shops since I can't get a week's worth of food in one trip . I've tried getting everything from Peapod, but (on top of staying up till 1am to get a slot) their produce is limited and their meat is meh (even filet mignon for goodness sakes). Whole Foods quality is very good but they don't have all the sundries we need. Yesterday I had to run an errand at TJ, so I shopped there. I rarely if ever had their meat before. Their ground beef (organic 85%) was nearly Barbie Doll pink and tasted awful. I mean just awful. There are a lot of things I like there, but again they don't really qualify as a meet-all-your-needs market.

Well, just because someone did it on a video doesn't make it right. Yours looks good but it's a lot for one person. Next time, add fresh breadcrumbs (freeze the bread then break it into chunks and whizz in the blender or food processor), a finely diced onion and some dried herbs like parsley, thyme, a smitch of sage. I like to add a bunch of grated cheese and some small diced smoky bacon, but that's me. Get puff pastry and cut into rectangles about 6" x 12" and lay a line of the sausagemeat mixture more or less the size of a link sausage along one long edge. Roll up and cut into two pieces for lunch size serves or 6-8 for parties. Brush the tops with milk and bake until golden. These freeze very well, so once you make a batch you can freeze most of them and just take them out and reheat them as required. If you don't want to reheat them in the oven, you can do a pretty good job by zapping them in the microwave for a few minutes to make them hot, then crisp up the pastry on a dry hot frying pan.
