Speaking of facial creams, do you have sensitivites?

Last winter I kept waking up at night with my nose stuffed as if I had a bad cold. When I got up in the morning all was fine after I washed my face.

At first I thought it was my feather pillows so I washed them and bought new covers for them. That didn't change the situation. So I started thinking about what I do when I go to bed that is different from any other time of day. The night cream was the answer. As soon as I stopped using it the problem went away. I tried numerous creams till it got to the point where I felt I was pouring money down the drain. Now all I use is pure olive oil or a bit of vaseline.

Day creams and sunscreens are the same except that I get a sore throat and cold symptoms, watery eyes, etc. Again tried many brands, neutrogena, olay, avon, noxema, etc.

My question is, do you have these senstitivites to creams and what is the specific thing in the products to cause these reactions. I am going back to my doctor in January and asking him to refer me to an allergist but in the meantime winter is here and I really would like to find an inexpensive night cream that will not cause these reactions.

That sounds puzzling & rare.

I bet you'd have better odds of finding someone with similar experience if you were to post where a huge number of people read.

You might try the Kitchen Table Forum (on the main That Home Site! menu page, about halfway between left & right, below the horizontal line on the menu).

It's a very active forum, & the posters are almost to a person helpful & forthcoming.

Valerie, had you thought at all about seeing a dermatologist and not waiting for your January appointment?
My niece has just about the most sensitive, driest skin in the world, she gets a fragrance free prescription cream that the druggist compounds for her - it keeps her skin healthy and soft. If you want to know specifically what your irritant is an allergist might be the way to go but a dermatologist might be quicker route for relief.

Your stuffy nose, eye irritating experiences with skin care products don't sound that odd to me, I wonder if added fragrance in those products isn't contributing to your issues. Perfumes/scents and the suncreens/blocks everyone preaches to us to slather on are both notorious for causing irritation, but I don't have a suggestion for you for an over the counter cream that is inexpensive and effective. Nothing is cheap if you can't use it and have to toss it :)

I'm so glad you asked this question. I'm wanting to have something done also, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I haven't even talked to my dermatologist about it, but he does something called CO2 Laser Skin Rejuvenation (DOT). Hello SunnyCottage! I would agree that your paint project is going to creep further aground! Here's some food for thought, mined from the web. "A room with crown molding most likely has other trim as well, such as around doors and windows. Painting the crown molding to match the other molding in the room creates a cohesive environment. If the other trim in the room is stained, stain the crown molding to match. One exception is when the ceiling seems low in the room already -- a crown molding that is painted a different color than the walls may make the ceiling seem even lower because the highlighted molding draws the eyes upward. In this case, you might opt to paint crown molding and walls to match." I took one of my little forays into Photoshop to explore. This example shows painting the crown to match the ceiling (which was also given as an option to optically raise a ceiling on other websites). At least that is the intention of my doctored photo, but I think my attempts provide a laugh for experienced photoshoppers.

So many people with issues with parents...sad. I was loved, I had toys and gifts,dresses, dolls, books, sport stuff, games,I lacked for nothing . But as I got older, I think I tried to "recapture" my childhood. As an adult, I loved antique shows, flea markets, garage sales. Any time I saw something we had in our house growing up, I had to buy it. I even bought too many rose bushes and planted them in my garden, trying to re-create my Grandma's rose garden. I now have a linen closet stacked with doilies and tablecloths I'll never use, sets of fancy glasses too fragile to use, things like that. Oh, and on the funny side, my daughter cleaned out my bathroom just yesterday. She found eleven bottles of Listerine. I don't know, I hate the stuff, it burns... I remember buying one bottle because it did everything, whitens teeth, freshens breath, makes gums healthy, strengthens the enamel. I'm just always looking for something to make me happy.

I second use of the rubber hand brushes. Labs have a thick undercoat that is always shedding but even more so at the change of seasons. When weather allows, I use it daily on her. It really helps to keep her coat conditioned and she loves the “massage” brushing with it gives . Kong has one that is the perfect size for smaller hands and reasonably priced (5-7 bucks on Amazon) ETA: I know that diet has been talked about a lot here but a dogs smell and the condition of their coat can be reflective of their diet. If you change your dogs food from one with a lot of fillers in it to one that doesn’t have fillers (and it doesn’t have to be 100% grain free), within a very short period of time you will feel a difference in your dogs coat. The same thing goes with the smell. Dogs are notorious for getting yeast infections in their ears, between their toes and anywhere else that has folds of skin. There are yeast spores outside that could be the culprit or it could be the brewers yeast a lot of foods have. Either way, the Vet can figure it out with an allergy test and provide a fix for it. Our dog was suffering from frequent ear infections and itchy feet so we got her tested and sure enough, she is allergic to yeast and several mites including grain mites. My point is is that even though some dog breeds may need to be bathed more often than others, if your bathing because your dog smells, I would urge you to speak with your vet about it, because it could be something with an easy fix. Dogs need the oils that build on their skin for lots of reasons. Over washing will only cause their skin to dry out more and itch more.

Thanks for the advice.

I bought a jar of vitamin E cream the other day to use as a night cream, it seems to working well. My skin gets so dry in the winter.

I will go to that other forum as soon as time permits. I came here first as I know alot of you and trust you. :)

I got a small jar of shea butter cream at Dollar General for $1, & it really helps my very dry skin.

well after only 4 nights of using the vitamin E cream I woke with the same stuffed sinus. that might narrow the field for what is causing this as there are only a few ingrediants in the cream. Drat, another ten bucks wasted.
