It looks like bacterial/fungal, if it spread that fast..definitely not sun burn, unless you got drops of water on it and then left it out in the hot sun for a long time which can cause this kinda burn...did you splash something on it by accident, or are you sure these spots are spreading?

No, didn't splash anything -- this one was inside on a sun porch and protected from direct sun -- just kind of an insidious start and rapid spread from one leaf to the others over the course of about a week.

Sorry about the photo problems -- I can see it fine with my browser, but never seem to be able to post a clean photo -- will keep trying. Thanks Calvin for reposting a photo in case others have difficutly seeing as well.

While you are waiting for the photo to load, put some cinnamon on the diseased parts of the leaves. Just take a pinch in your fingers and smooth it over the leaves, top and bottom.

It will not hurt the leaves, and it may stop whatever it is from spreading. Cinnamon is a contact anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, so it works in either case.

I believe this to be bacterial also, I had lost 2 phals to the same thing as your photo shows last fall, Both from the same store.
Whatever it was it went quick thru out the entire plant.

Thanks all -- too weird about the photo. I will try the cinnamon, but as lagoon described, this has gone really rapidly. I'm not optimistic about viability of this plant.

I can finally see it, thanks to SC. Have no idea, almost looks chemical. If its spreading, that is not good news. Sure you didn't get some kind of spray on it?

Usually bacterial is black and mushy and spreads fast. This appears whitish/grey. Doesn't look bacterial to me.

I have another thought: Could it be false spider mite (phalaenopsis mite) damage? Take a magnifier and look for tiny red insects on the leaves - you can also take a tissue moistened with alcohol and wipe the leaf, looking for orange-red on the tissue. I recently moved, and was amazed how very quickly they spread on a couple plants I hadn't looked at in a few days. Please be sure to isolate the plant if you haven't already.

Sorry I didn't bring this up sooner, I couldn't see the photo either.

Thanks all -- appreciate everyone's assistance. I isolated the plant at first sign. Did not see signs of the mites, philohela, when I checked it--- but it was really far gone. Couldn't stand looking at it anymore last night and decided to give it a proper burial.
