Tonight we were invited to a birthday party. A group of us are starting out at a Friday Fish Fry and then we're going to see Muskie Love at the Overture Center. Requested attire for the evening is "Fisherman Chic" (the hosts liked Steve's "Hunter Casual Elegant" party a few years ago), so I'm making earrings, a necklace and a belt out of spinners and bobbers, wearing a red top, black slacks, "fish"net stockings, and black high heels.

I got my nails done today. Tomorrow is belt promotions for taekwando and I'll practising forms, one steps, and self defense techniques. I hope to be a yellow belt by this time tomorrow.

Also tomorrow there is an opening at a local art gallery. I'll be there too.

Tomorrow my wife and I will drive up to Sharpsburg Maryland to attend a gladiolus bulb digging party in my daughters back yard. Large bulbs, medium sized bulbs, small bulbs and of course bulblets. Something for everyone. Do come join the fun. Steve in Baltimore County

OMG people have fun on weekends?
Today (Saturday) I'm at home doing not very much. A lady is selling plants for me at the local market. Tomorrow I go to a different market, and do some selling for myself. Son has gone to a Scout camp, preparation for the national Jamboree early next year. Its the last weekend of school holidays, back to school on Monday.

Playing around with my digital camera. I bragged on a thread re books about teaching myself stuff, but this is hard! Guess I'd best make handwritten notes so I'll remember what works best for various subjects. josh

Taxes!!! LOL - DH filed an extension, so that's his 'fun' for this weekend.

I will probably sort through my sewing room and start packing it downstairs to my new sewing/craft space. I know this doesn't really sound fun, but for me it is. My new space is huge and I can't wait to get my stuff all arranged in it. Anyway, I'm so excited I can hardly stand myself. :-)Must be that nesting thing again. See 'nothing like' thread.

Grocery, bake cookies for dd school function, car in for oil change, plant 275 crocus bulbs I succumbed to at the last minute), mother to a surprise 90 year old birthday partey (mom is only 80), shop for new tennies while mom at party, attend "meet the parents night" at soccer game, stay for boys game, pizza party afterwood, collapse in a heap. Sunday hope to get all the porch furnature put away for the witner. Oh and laundry and cleaning fitted in somewhere. Dh is working. Another busy weekend. Next weekend get the great joy of taking 3 of the felines to the vet.

The downside of being retired is that you don't really have weekends. If you want to do something, you don't have to wait, unless it involves people that aren't retired.

Sooooo, if you don't have weekends, you don't have the weekend to look forward to. I rather miss it!! Funny thing is......even after all these years, I still sleep late on Sunday Mornings.

We're having #2 Son, his wife and grand'gal over for lunch. The granddaughter is learning to cook, so I'll got her menu all printed up, I'm going to go over all the things she needs to do to get it on the table, and then, I intend to sit back and enjoy. Mr. Agnes is scheduled to clean up the kitchen.

I feel like i'm burning alive.
I took what I thought was a tylenol tablet, which
turned out to be a niacin tablet that Neil takes.
I have the fans turned on, I have the funeral fan out,
Neil had been fanning me with a book until Discovery
Health started the show about the removal of a 200 pound
tumor and he deserted me.

The weekend has been the usual, friday night dinner with friends.
Lazy day today, Tomorrow there are a couple of festivals to
choose from.

I did get invited to a girlie week the end of the month.
A friend has a condo on Mexico Beach and I am so looking
forward to going.

Cleaning up after the storm, hubby's been working in Town trying to get trees cleared out etc...just glad to have lights and heat but reaching out to friends and relatives who don't...basements are flooding and it's a mess.

I earned my yellow belt today. It was nice to feel confident doing the forms.

Went to a gallery opening this evening. Pottery and sculpture by a husband and wife team. Neat stuff.

Like Agnes I am not tied to weekends, they only impact when one gets a tooth-ache or one of the animals need the vet.
So still Sunday is Sunday - I take it easy, go to town and get the Sunday paper, whatever groceries are needed and one indulgence, either ice-cream or something spicy or a special cut of meat or something.
Today I will finally get my firewood and the vendor told Joann (she saw him at the feed-store) that he will stack it for me! Sometimes it's worthwhile to be a little old lady

Horse radish on a steak is a must for Missy and I. Guess we like the niacin rush but I can see how it would be rough for those that are not used to it. Good horse radish is not always easy to find.

As for retirement, I retire every night. ; )

Spent this weekend up to my elbow in dirt in-between the much needed rain showers. Have two beds done & re-mulched. Much, much more to do, but I'm feeling good at what I've gotten accomplished.

Well, I had a job list and just almost finished it this weekend. Nevermind the list was two weeks old. LOL.

I just plugged in and programmed the dehumidifier I bought two days ago. I know, I know, that season is supposed to be over and it's humidifier season. Not in an 185 year old house. Dank. So, it won't be for long. Good lordy, they've gotten candy butt with those things.......all the little bells and whistles. The up side is I got it for over a hundred dollars off, thanks to the season being over and a gift card my kid gave me.

Baked another couple pumpkin pies. The last pair I baked were so gorgeous, but one bite and it was evident the directions forgot to include the sugar. The hens loved it, however and they won't get a cavity in that scarce commodity, a hen's tooth.

Got the tomato cages all up and stacked, and most of the pepper plants pulled, did a laundry or two to take advantage of the sunny, cool, breezy days. Cut out a template for a new quilt. I am going to make a test piece to see how it flies. This one is the tumbling blocks pattern. If it proves too icky, I'll put it away and address it after Christmas.

Like Lilo, on my off seasons, one day is much like the next so I make it a weekend in my mental attitude. I DON'T HAVE TO WORK, unless I want to and usually relax and still end up accomplishing more than a weekday because there aren't the usual distractions of mail/phones/ etc.

Got the layouts done for my Christmas flyers for work too.

Gosh, where was the fun part?

I had a nice list made, Saturday was in the mid-50's with sunshine: a gorgeous day for outside chores. The list included such things as mowing the lawns with the grass-catcher and dividing some of the perennials in the side bed. Reality turned out to be a day in bed. Truly, I only meant to sleep for another 30 minutes, but when I woke again, it was 4 p.m. Sometimes my real self sneaks up on me.

Sunday was spent partly with DD and GS visiting, and mostly with all those little chores that seem to accumulate. The lawn still needs to be mowed.

Today isa my "get with the list" day. It's raining here & will be raining all day (YAHOO!), so it's the perfect day to cath up on indoor chores.

My firewood arrived - and not a moment too soon - the vendor stacked it for me as a nice extra favor. The bin got tarped and it started to rain, if that isn't luck, I don't know what luck is (paraphrasing Mr. Vonnegut here). I made a light fire in the evening, kicked it up this morning. Life is good

I'm sitting here laughing. What's with all the lists? I used to always have a list of "to do" things. One for the business and one for the household. I got away from it about five years ago and that is exactly when stuff seemed to be getting out of hand. I started list-making again a month or two ago and at least have the fires put out and feel like I'm treading water, instead of going down for the second or third time.

Is list-making a common thing with our set?

Oh, I just went up to the sewing room for an hour or so and started cutting out material for the tumbling blocks quilt. OMG, I love it. Hope I can carry this one off.

Suzy, I think lists become necessary as one gets to the age where "senior moments" become more frequent. I know that if I don't have some kind of list, especially when I go to town to run errands & pick various things up, I invariably forget something.

And how many of us went through one of those time management courses in the late 1970's or early 1980's? I did & remember their popularity caused a veritable explosion in the number of people carrying around day planners with whole special sections in them for "to do" & lists of projects.

Bingo, Andie. Lists are a management tool. I can be a very pragmatic person, and sometimes I like to distance myself from a situation and "walk outside" to look in at it in a methodical manner. It's amazing how the paradigm shift can help put things in perspective. I am not a "housewife" in the traditional sense of the word, but I have a large chunk of the responsibility of running the house, and then I have the full brunt of the business responsibility. So, I look upon the household part of my life as a business and apply management techniques to it.

It sounds totally mind numbing and compulsive, but it isn't. Some people consider their home just sort of the millieu they float around in........and they just react to whatever is happening in that millieu. Sort of like fish in water. I like to think there is control of the household environment and by excersising that control and keeping it in order, I then free up major blocks of time I can spend doing things I want or need to do. Like going back to school or taking time out for a creative project. I really don't care much of a fig about keeping a perfect in order house. Mostly just don't want it controlling me!

It's almost a pity that homemaking courses are not really taught anymore in public school. Homemaking is more than shop/cooking/sewing. It is something that business rules can be used upon.

Janis, I feel for you. That danged niacin can cause great discomfort.

I had a wonderful weekend -- went to Memphis,TN to the Southern Festival of Books. It was wonderful. I got to hear a bunch of great authors talk (as well as some not so great ones, but never mind), as well as a talk by Garrison Keilor. My college buddy from many years ago met me there -- she's from upstate New York -- and we talked, read, bought books, listened to other people read, ate and talked some more. It was grand.
