I've always loved that first quote...isn't it Irish?

The quote from the postcard makes me wonder if there are Halloween greeting cards for sale now. If not, Hallmark is missing a bet...LOL I read that this holiday generates the second highest revenue after Christmas for seasonal decorations...about 5 billion dollars! My old bunch of grass plumes, gourd and black cat statue might not suffice, but it's all I'm using. Very few trick or treaters here...but I've stocked up on candy just in case. Happy Halloween. josh

Bazillions of trick-or-treaters here, Josh. I go through many bags of candy bars! Also, there are whole sections of Halloween greeting cards in the stores. I haven't received one of these myself lately, but I have in the past. Don't worry, Hallmrk hasn't let this holiday go untapped.

Well, I guess we can't complain much about the weather, or neighbors to the north and west have had it so bad. We've had a snow/slush mix for several days, only accumlation is on the deck, and windbreaks in the pasture. Horses decided they needed a different pasture, so the onery one just pushed her bulk against the gate till it gave way.Only benefit is, they dont want hay now. On another forum , a poster in N.Y said she was still paying 1.00 per square bale. Did you get your stitches out, Gldno? Did everyone have a nice Christmas? Its so nice to see new posters, and former ones coming back, missed you even if I dont know you personally, keep posting. Do you like a journal type entry? William, I'm in trouble!! The site I mentioned Gary Ibsens Tomato Fest, wants a 15.00 order!! Do you know how many tomato seeds that would be?? And I SIMPLY MUST have San Marzeno Redorta, and Long Tom, so guess I'll be adding to storage seeds. And then!!LOL--did you see Tangerine Mama in Burpees? Yes, my name is-------- and I'm addicted to growing, tomatoes especially. And, Hope springs eternal, I'm going to try yellow, purple, and green cauliflower again--just not so much. I cut my garden down some last year, told myself that at my age, I didnt need so much--but myself dont listen to me in the spring!! I find myself admiring how well the beds are looking, with the leaves mounded over them. Gldno, I read another Catherine Coulter book yesterday, F.B.I series, the sheriff finally found his wife (from a previous book) It was "Double Take". I've also read James Patterson's "Quickie" and Sandra Browns "Play Dirty" With all this mixture falling from the sky, its either gaze wistfully out the window at the garden, or curl up by the fire with a good book--or a seed catalog. Got territoral yesterday, Havent gotten Baker Creek, despite complaining, so guess they wont get a order. Oh, and I must tell you about my Christmas Turkey!! It was PURPLE!! I was ready to put it in the oven when I noticed under the skin, the entire bird was purple! It didnt have a off smell, just like a raw turkey, so I apprehensively went ahead and cooked it. When it came out, it did have a off odor, so it was buried deep. No, really, I didnt cook Barney, as some suggested. Good thing we were going to daughters for dinner. B: 1 egg, 2 egg whites, deli salsa, grilled corn omelet, coffee S: coffee and a granola lemon bar (my friend was an HOUR late-grrrrr-so I got hungry and chose the most healthy thing I could find in the coffee shop case; what a waste of calories!) L: 1 cup cottage cheese mixed with finely diced tomatoes, green onions, cilantro, and spicy spices S: 10 pretzels D: Taco salad: 1/3 c refried beans, 1/8 c. shredded cheese, lot of shredded lettuce, tomato, ¼ c cottage cheese, salsa, 120 cal worth of baked chips on top. S: Arg. Lays Baked BBQ chips, 2 handfuls, and a ½ c of fritos. I hate having chips in the househate it! Salty snacks call to me. The county fines people a 100 or more dollars a day for noxious weed spread. Now that's motivation to do yard work, eh? Needless to say, I've never gotten fined. We're expected to have a hella wind storm tonight. Remember last year when we were out of power for days? They're saying this one won't be as bad. That was a 10 and this is supposed to be a 7. I'm bringing in wood today and getting the candle and flashlights ready. And we're all sleeping downstairs tonight. There are 200 foot trees next to my house and they DO fall occasionally! If I'm not on tomorrow, it'll be because I have no power! Short story: Yesterday, my DD in college called me. She says, "Mom, I have a problem..." Well, I am thinking the worst, but then she tells me that she's babysitting a friend's offspring and that the baby has been crying for 40 minutes. I can hear the baby on her shoulder crying its heart out. 10 minutes later, we finally got the baby quiet--air in tummy or overstimulated; I'm not sure. Dimly lit room and some pats on the back, pressure on the tummy, etc---but talking my DD through that baby's crying spell gave me the strangest feeling. Now I know how my mom felt when I called her with my colicy babies! It's tough not to BE there to help! Is Raeanne on her wine tour in CA already? And where's Maddie? Patti? Tikanas? JOHN???????? Halloween is almost here, so let's get motivated to step away from the candy. Anyway, have a great day and stay safe!

duane--i think everyone on the northeast coast was hunkered down after our fun drive home last night! i expected the roads to be slick but that "ooblick" falling from the sky just kept glomming on to the windshield and wipers. my trip is only about 22 miles or so and i had to stop twice on the way home to clean the wiper blades so i could see! enjoy the wegman's trip stacy--i'd love to go along with you as that is such a neat store. not much you can't find in there, is there? sorry to hear you aren't feeling well, maggie. and i certainly hope your new footwear cleans up to your satisfaction. maybe grace didn't understand that "uggs" was a brand name and not a statement :) congrats, gina! i knew you had been working hard on your game but your teacher said your stroke was perfect? it just doesn't get any better than that--congrats to you! glad to hear that meredith continues to challenge you, chase. you wouldn't have it any other way, would you? we bought our tree last weekend and it's still sitting in a snow bank... happy birthday to wolf, sharon! sounds like you have everything all mapped out to make things special! michelle--i sure hope you add snow chains and kitty litter to your list, should you decide to continue on your jaunt this weekend. the weather reports look absolutely horrid right now! good luck with your decision! rearranging and cleaning up are what's on my weekend list. gotta make room for the tree and get the christmas cards ready for monday's mail. those 2 little tasks will really take way longer than they should but i sort of look forward to it. hope everyone in our part of the world stays off the road if you don't absolutely have to be out and about--enjoy!

YAY Amy! I was surprised how much good just a little "exercise" can accomplish. I hope walking in the heat didn't bother your migrain. I have ment to tell you, in the picture you posted of you, hubby and Connor at the skating rink you look a LOT like DH's cousing Becky when she was your age. When we get back from our trips I will look up a picture of her and compare. They say everyone has a twin somewhere, I may have found yours. It is pouring rain right now, so I don't think I will get to ride today. DH will have to get ready for work and the road won't dry out in time between church and work. I will just have to walk today. We are taking the bike with us so I will have to make it up tomorrow I guess. beverly

Hallmark let's no holiday go untapped &, in fact, they make up their ow. I've always thought that zuch ocaisions as Bosses Day & Secretary's Day were invented by the greeting card & florist industry.

i got two Halloween cards this year - both Hallmark's Maxine. I guess that says something about me.

Things that go bump in the night . Well...they sure bumped me last night. I spent the night in THE guestroom...the weird guestroom. I had to get up and turn on the light because not only did I hear funny creaky noises,which weren't the usual,but kind of a thumping sound. It wasn't that which made me turn on the light,but the pressure that kept pushing on my feet and then stopping,then starting then stopping. I finally turned on the light and in a quiet voice told whatever it was to go away. I know it sounds like I'm a total flake,but at least it made me feel better. In the past when I've been in there and something strange happened,like once the curtains moving up and down when the window was closed,I just rolled over and went back to sleep because Cody was in there with me. Once in awhile I think DHs snoring is easier to take than things which go bump in the night. I need a dog and am working on that. Stay tuned.

Makes me think of ole Tom (Tam, Scottish variant) O'Shanter, Meg, and Nannie.

The English department has been putting on the play Dracula this week and the last performance is is tonight. I think I will go for no other reason than self gratification.

Methinks I will keep a look out for a wee witch sporting a cutty-shark....

I have that Irish Prayer (Yes it is an Irish prayer), framed and ready to hang in my house. I embroidered that sampler many moons ago for my mother to hang in her bedroom, because she shared it with a benign but otherworldly spirit who came to visit on occasion. I had the experience of said spirit laying hands on my forehead one night when I was in that room and it scared the bejeebers out of me. The prayer sampler was stitched and hung forthwith.

My house's aura is "friendly" but I'm sure it's occupied as well, given it's age and the number of people who died here from typhoid many years ago. I know better than to invite their passage into this dimension, it would be like a dam breaking.

Andie, I get sent comic strips featuring Sylvia, Nicole Hollander's creation, often...don't know why...certainly no resemblance in personality that I recognize...LOL

Marda, I'd certainly be looking for a dog, too. Although my first thought when you mentioned something pressing against you was "cat"...LOL I well remember sharing my bed with a pushy cat...I miss that. josh
