Roses vs. Orchids

Thought this might be a fun little debate ;)

Are roses overrated? Should the orchid take the throne of most-beautiful-flower? Or are roses the epitome of elegance in American culture and the beauty of orchids best admired from a distance?

Roses, on the one hand, are a gorgeous specimen indeed. With their velvety petals and radiant, deep colors who could resist the classic beauty of a rose? Like The Mona Lisa, their violent thorns and gentle flowers make them a prime example of the saying "look, but don't touch". Roses are often looked upon as symbols of love, playing a major role in romantic affairs and days such as weddings, intimate dates, anniversaries and Valentines Day. Roses are the crowned queen of the botanical world; The angel of boquets.

Are roses, however, overrated? How long can the reign of roses last?

Orchids take flowers to a whole new level. A rose is a simple beauty, but an orchid is a natural work of art. A mix between monstrous and gorgeous, a feeling of intimidation overwhlems many when these tropical wonders come to mind. The exotic color patterns and threatening lips of orchids give them an other-worldly appearance. Orchids separate the men from the boys in gardening. If you can grow and bloom an orchid, forget the green thumb - that baby's platinum. Growing an orchid can be one of the most satisfying experiences one can obtain, and an orchid in bloom can hold even the weakest of attention spans captive for hours.

So, in the end, who prevails? The majestic rose or the exotic orchid?
