Was our plan to fix the problems a good solution (as you requested Meldy)?

We'll sure hear what the loan officer thinks about it today. We're getting a "construction loan", which means... they'll give us a loan for the price of the house+construction costs up front. You do that when you intend to fix it up considerably. You must know how to fix the problems and how much it'll cost. And, paramount, you must promise to do it in a specified amount of time (6-12 months). In other words, you can't look like a total doofus. We present our plan to the Bank today. We've hired an inspector and signed contracts. I can't wait to go shopping for appliances, pick out paint colors and make gardens shine. It's going to be an adventure from which we've taken a break for three or so years. How completely exciting.

School. Traffic is lleh!!! Tuesday night the instructor spent the entire time telling sophomores (yes, I'm a 40-year-old senior in a class of 19-year-olds, ugh) how sophomoric behavior would not be tolerated and to not even try it. He'll even give you two weeks out of class with no repercussions, but miss another and you get your entire grade lowered one letter. Wednesday night was much more like I am used to, no absences tolerated. Then, he handed out the syllabus, skimmed over it, skimmed over where to find legal codes (as a refresher), and gave us our assignment. My entire body lit up when he told us the last four or so classes writing our appellate brief. Oh my gosh! I love case briefs. Why can't trial law pay better? This week's argument is to defend or prosecute Goldilock's. Yes, the fable. Think I'll fry the little intruder. Or maybe plead that she is just a babe who needed help and could find none since those mean old bears growled at her and scared her to flee into the night. Shame on them.

It's been a while, but I've met construction loans.

Please put slide-out shelves in any cabinet that is waist-level or lower. I spent an hour this morning doing calesthenics trying to reach a bowl at the back of deep kitchen cabinet. It's been almost 20 years and I still can't believe I agreed to those cabinets!

It's gonna be rough having mature hormones in the midst of the 19 y.o.'s, but I suspect you'll find a lot of quiet admiration from them.

Miss 3 weeks and get grade lowered ONE letter?!!! That sort of attitude makes a mockery of all the grades he gives. I hope he's better at teaching than at grading.

You gonna try to fry those 12-carat tresses with a serving of mitigating circumstances on the side? Let's see, trespassing, breaking & entering, theft, invasion of privacy... last time all that happened was when the cat opened the pantry, tore apart the TunaNibblies package, crunched a bunch and buried the rest under MY pillow. She pled not guilty; the jury agreed due to the mitigating circumstances of irresistably aromatic packaging inducing a catfit.

Oh my gosh, what a hoot. When I was little, I remember I had difficulty accepting what she did as being right and feeling sorry for the bears. She was an intruder and it would not have been tolerated if the family she had perpetrated this on were human, instead of bears. She took advantage of them because of their ursine persuasion. I actually think it has overtones of a Civil right violation and should also be prosecuted as a torte case as well as a criminal infraction. If you can't get her to serve time, you could whack her pocketbook.

Oh my...is it mid August already? This has certainly been an interesting summer. Until last week the only tomatoes I've had were sungolds, thank goodness for sungolds! But it's certainly not easy to make a BLT with cherry tomatoes. This intense heat is starting to take it's toll. Even the bermuda grass looks like it's dying...I wish! I keep saying I'm going to water (not the BG!) but then "they" predict rain. Tomorrow morning I'll start watering some veggies and fruits. I do keep my blueberries irrigated along with all new plantings. We drink a lot of cranberry juice here so I poke a tiny hole at the bottom and use them for "drip" irrigation. The blues produced a few berries. It's so nice to be able to walk outside and pick fresh berries for breakfast. I have a single doyle blackberry plant that produced some flavorful berries as well. I've only had a few bush beans thus far, but grateful for the few. Pole beans are just starting to fatten up. Some peppers are producing well and others aren't doing crap. I'll bet I've harvested 25 or more hot banana peppers from one plant. Anaheim has been a great producer as well. The melons are starting to come in. We had the 1st ambrosia last week. Still waiting on Hales. I've had a nice harvest from diva cukes so far. They may be petering out as I type. They were looking a little wilty this morning. We ate the 1st okra last week too. We nearly fought over those few. I'm gonna pull my alpine strawberries this fall. They just aren't worth it. I think I've figured out how I can squeeze another row in my garden by reducing the size of a couple of paths. Now, what will I plant there? Hmmm... Happy harvest!!

It was fantastic! Kids mitigate sorrow (Fancis Bacon). Boy was he right! And today, I spent 23 minutes from beginning to end at the DMV with the Franklin place. It was much better. And mommy gave me cash for the checks. Plus, we got to have lunch with her; it was delish. Thanks for your good well wishes.

Moving isn't in the top ten list of life's biggest stressors for nuttin! Sometimes, just acknowledging that I'm in overload and stressed out gives me just enough umph to get through it. And when I have a gazillion tasks and things swimming in my head due to such stressors in life, reminding myself that it all going smoothly is an absolute insane thought, helps me get through it too. It's like a roller coaster ride isn't it? Fast, slow, scary and exciting all at once. The cars will eventually stop on those tracks. Allow yourself a lot of plan B's, so to speak. When packing, for instance, sure you had a box set aside for extra sheets and blankets and now you have wasted ten minutes searching for that box. Throw them in a hefty bag and deal with them after you move. And remember, bring down your (prior to moving in) remodeling goals down a notch or two. You can always continue and complete them after you move in. I know, it's easy for me to say. Just in my work I see the panic in their eyes when I ask: "And do you want us to paint that walk in closet too?" You should see some of the faces of panic we see! I've never met a person yet to doesn't get freaked out over picking up EVERYTHING they own, sorting it, packing it and moving it. I'm so excited for you! Keep on updating us. Yes, when I went back for my second masters I was 48, I think. It was dificult because some of the field work was quite strenuous (like forestry) but it was a definite advantage to be a grown up. I am sure you will do fine. You sound enthused and that is half the battle. That Gioldilocks sure was a stinker! I reccommend community service plus reparations. Although I also think an aquaintance with a razor strap might be benenficial. I am old fashioned in theory but in real life I used to have a board I would get out and wave at my kids and they would laugh at me because they knew I would never use it. Sigh! They turned out pretty well any way.

teehee on all the Goldilocks (did I get that right this time?!) prosecutions. Meldy, I love your humor with regard to the illicit feline activity. Suz, I might just add civil right violation to the list; on target! Becca, I don't know if we have a strap beating as an option, but there is a judge who likes to have the defendents who lose do things "animal" related. "YELLING "PIGS" AT POLICE OFFICERS--The judge: Painesville (Ohio) Municipal Court Judge Michael A. Cicconetti. The sentence: Teens had to stand on a street corner with a pig and a sign reading, 'This is not a police officer.'" I kinda like him.

Meldy, get yourself 2 big drainracks for your deep cabinets, one to put your bowls, boilers in, upside down. Easy to pull out as far as you need to get what you need, or lift out entirely to get to the rack behind. The other is for the potlids, piepans, muffin tins, etc. standing on edge. If it's one of those deep corners, might even hold 3 racks. And OT but I think you gave the recipe for frozen cucumber/onion salad...it's great! I added fresh tomato but might try adding it next time to the frozen combo. josh
