I've finished addressing the envelopes!

I've been working on the wedding invitations for the past week. Well, I've been working on them since October 2009, but I finally actually printed them and started putting the little info packets together last week.

Last night I finished addressing them. I still have 1 more insert to print and cut out, but then it'll just be a matter of getting them weighed, buying stamps, and handing them over to the USPS (scariest part!)

Anyway, I'm so proud of my wrap-around labels, that I just had to share.

Oh - also, the invite is sitting on the new cake plate for the wedding cake! My original one ended up being about 1/4 of an inch too small. My dad found this one in an antique/junk shop last week. YAY!

I was so hoping there would be a picture, love, love, love the wrap around label. I'm so happy for you. This is so exciting! Go Dad! Are you nervous, excited, scared, all of it, yet?

I too am new in town. It's wonderful to find such a community of caring and sharing people on the web. The wealth of information, wisdom, and experience is priceless. Thank you to whomever run/police this site for keeping it nice and clean. Just some thoughts...A lot of the good advice in this thread and and in the "newby" threads aren't very clear in the Seed Exchange FAQ. When I first joined, I read the FAQs and searched for threads to find answers. That's hours of reading to get through some of those really long threads. (For instance, not sending the envelope inside an envelope isn't mentioned in the FAQ. I probably first read it here in Dec. '09) Anyway, I think I found the most clear instructions in the Winter Sowing FAQs... Also, Eileen mentioned the sender clear taping over labels. That might be a really good idea for those mailng to cold climates. Use freezer tape or cover the label. I recently received a BEAP with an all purpose office products type label on it on a -10F day. The edges were curled and it was hardly holding on. Cudos to the mail carrier for keeping the label with the package. DD

Bubble Envelopes-are you being charged correctly?

I just sent some seeds off on one of my trades. I fit 5 small plastic baggies spread out within the bubble sleeve inside a regular, business-sized envy, so I figure it's anywhere from 1--5 baggies of seeds can go inside very easily, maybe even six. I do know that 5 just went and was weighed by the post office as less than 1 ounce. I got the 42 cent charge and a 20 cent non-machineable charge, so it mailed for 62 cents. (I really don't think it was non-machineable, but I wasn't going to argue this time. Do you know what non-machineable really is or is it anything they say it is? It wasn't rigid or what have you...) Anyways, that's not too bad for a trade of 5 different kinds of seeds. The envelope sleeve, even though brand new, cost only 22 cents each because I cut it down to fit inside a regular envy as a sleeve, so that makes a totaly of 84 cents is all. Plus, my mini-baggies I just got in only cost 1.5 cents a piece since I found them on ebay. Regardless, that's under $1 per trade even with everything being brand spank'en new. When I try to mail the bubble envies, I am being pegged to be over-charged almost every time now if I go inside the post-office. This particular trip I wasn't charged parcel or I would have sent the envy to you that I'm sending soon. But because they usually are overcharging me, I've chosen to mail with the appropriate postage after I've weighed and measured the envies here at home. I just got a scale, so that is already turning out to be much easier. I sure hope this isn't causing anyone I send to end up being charged "postage due". I'll make it right if it does as long as they let me know, but I'm sure not going to pay more every single time I trade than what I really owe just because once in a while someone is charged on the receiving end when they shouldn't be. Terri_pacnw, I love that Offbeat Bride website. I love the fashion and creative decorating pics. The happy couple always look sooooo, well happy! Not the typical wedding photos with the stoic bride flanked by bridesmaids with crimped faces. There is also lots of advice for the wedding planning dealing with issues that the typical brides magazines don't tackle, like "How do I tell my parents I'm that I am wearing black to my wedding?" or "I'm getting a tattoo instead of a wedding ring. Should I wait until after the ceremony to show it off or is it OK to show it before the ceremony?" ------------- Zeeta, I have only attended one Pagan ceremony and part of it entailed a smudging. Just a FYI. As a guest you may be cleansed with a sage smudging or maybe just the bride and groom participate in the ritual. It is similar to the incense that a priest waves over the crowd at a Catholic high mass. Nothing to be afraid of unless you have a smoke allergy or asthma or something. Pagan ceremonies are natural and easy to follow. In our Canadian system, there is frequently a series of lines, usually light orange colour, similar to a bar code, that run across the lower right side of the envelope, about 3/8" up from the bottom. They tell the automatic routing machines through which channels to send that piece of mail in order to arrive at its designated destination. These are on letters addressed to me. Often I get letters asking for donations and they usually include a return envelope, no window, pre-addressed to the address of the sender (I'm not sure whether there's usually a bar code on them, but I think not) but they have a box at top right showing their post-paid information, including a number that the P.O. uses to calculate whom to bill for that letter. If you use an envelope with a return-postage-guaranteed envelope like that (usually with no window) and you cover up the origianl returnee's address to add one of your choice, you'll need to cover over the return postage box at the top right - a stamp will suffice. Thanks for reusing things - our trees are the replenishers of the world's oxygen, so deserve being preserved ... in their original form, that is, rather than being turned into envelopes. I developed a habit early on after entry into this world, to which I've become thoroughly addicted, called "breathing" ... and it's my earnest desirethat I should be able to continue to benefit from this addiction for some additional time. Actually, my farm-owner Dad, who suffered from pretty well chronic bronchitis and was developing incipient asthma, moved from this fairly humid and substantially polluted area over 60 years ago, to farm on the Prairies, and had 40 years of good health, in that drier, cleaner atmosphere. It's a little bit against etiquette to use labels on wedding invites, but I just didn't feel up to being let loose with a silver sharpie on these envelopes. LOL I also printed our return address labels and used a cute little scalloped paper punch for those. As soon as I get everything totally finished tonight, I'll take pics and post of EVERYTHING.

WRT the stamps. I DID know you could order custom stamps. But, since I don't yet know how much these invites will weigh, I am not going that route. I HOPE they don't weigh over the max for the 44 cent stamps, because I REALLY want to be able to use these.

I hope the weight is right, no wonder you would like the stamps.
You have done such a good job with all your wedding preparations. If I would have had to do all that, I never would have gotten married.

Well, I do think that the fact we've been together for almost 11 years help. The girls who are getting married, buying a house, etc all for the first time, are the ones who I can't imagine how they do it all.

My whole year has been ONLY wedding. That's helped.
