Pretty bizarre, isn't it? The cold is bringing us rain, however, and it's so appreciated. I figured the dry would result in the blackberries being nothing but shriveled up promises, so only took a tub along with me (not really expecting to pick, but too lazy to make the walk back home) to the wood's edge and a glass of tea. LOL. I had to park the tea and get picking. The darkness and my empty gut, and the crockpot of ham and bean soup brought me in for the night, but I'll continue picking in the morning. I marked my spot by counting paces from the upper-level groundhog den hole. We seem to have them about every couple hundred yards this year.

Sure is strange, I wore my sweat shirt all day. Blackberries, WOW ! We've been picking our own crop of raspberries, a couple quarts a day.

Send some of that cool weather to the northwest, we could use it.

We'd sure enjoy that weather over here. Highs in the nineties and constant yuchy humidity in the 70%+ range. The A/Cs have been running 24 hours a day; turn them off and your feet/arms/hands stick to anything touched (care required to do the latest jigsaw, pieces stick to your fingers better than post-its to a wall, flick them off and the vacuum will get them). Outside is bareable in the dawn to about 9a. I don't garden in this sort of weather. August is almost here, and that month is always worse...

Seems our usual summer weather has gone to the
northwest.

We now have the late summer weather we've come to expect in NYC -- high humidity, too far above 80F to be comfortable. In hot weather things smell much worse in this crowded place with its garbage and people and dogs. I can tolerate, with varying success, walking a mile to the subway in the morning. Up until this week it was below 80F and the humidity was moderate, and I was thinking, "I like summer!" Now those of us who don't like the heat are walking slowly, and it is a time of resigned suffering, eyes closed, windows curtained. People just gesture briefly with their hands instead of smiling or speaking. It feels good to wash hands under cold water and ignore the towel, and to give yourself over to the first juicy bite of a dark ripe plum from the refrigerator.

I'm with Janis. Obviously, I live in the south since it not being hot in summer is a good thing. Good one M!

As of today we broke a record in our corner of KY. The first July since keeping track w/o temps in the nineties. I don't mind, but I think it might change come Monday.
