A nice side benefit of topdressing

After overseeding my own lawn and somewhat helping completely renovating my neighbor's lawn (offering a lot of advice + some tools), one side benefit was that we got a better sense of where our sprinkler systems were - and weren't - hitting. The thing that helped was topdressing with compost and peat moss. As you might suspect, the change in color of wet peat moss is significant. There were areas that we totally didn't know about that weren't receiving any - or enough - water.

Yes, we could have gotten this by inspecting the grass - when it was there - or by using tuna cans, but some of these areas were so small (a few square feet) that we might have missed it. But the difference was GLARING with the peat moss topdressing.

After all of this, I can't believe the person who lived here before me (I moved in last fall) was happy with the irrigation system. I can't wait to get the guy back here so he can recalibrate it. The thing is really messed up.
