Shirley, Ah, a search on the tomtato pests & diseases forum comes up with this quote from a post from Dr. Carolyn Male, widely respected tomato expert, microbiology professor, and author of _100 Heirloom Tomatoes for the American Garden_: "TMV has not been a problem for home gardenres in many years. Tobacco grown for the last 20 years in the US is TMV tolerant. Turkish tobacco is not. The major incidence of TMV is in large greenhouse operations where it is transmistted mechanically, not by insect vector." So there you go. I had come across this info in another source from Dr. Carolyn a while back. I've grown huge, successful tomato gardens for 6 years now by following her advice and have a lot of respect for it. You (and anyone) of course can feel free take it or leave it, and I wish you a fantastic tomato crop either way. Cheers, Z

Ceresone - I have some potted blueberries too. They're only in five gallon pots (maybe smaller) It's those foam ones that look like concrete. I've had a Sunshine Blue that way for a few years and just put it up against the south side of the house in the winter with no extra mulch or anything and it does fine. It's in the shade there from our balcony which might help it not to leaf out too early in the spring. That is my plan so far for my two new ones, Chandler and Ozark Blue. I think Ozark Blue may be the least hardy of those three so I should probably give it a little extra shelter. I have some bigger containers to move them into in the spring. I've been trying to decide what to do with some grape starts that are only in gallon pots. I've been debating whether to plant them or wait until spring. Same with my pawpaw seedlings that are in two liter bottles and some salvia guaranitica that I rooted. The Jupiter Grape that I planted this spring doesn't look very healthy to me. Hope it makes it through the winter. I picked hazelnuts and my second round of Sakata Sweet melons this week. Do you all think this cool weather and rain will give us some good fall colors this year? How did your pie turn out Glenda?

I've been expecting them again. Since I put little bonnets over the top of my caged plants they are happier than a pig in a shaded mud hole. They look as nice on August 1st as they have in several years if not ever. And starting tor set more fruit. The shade cloth over the top appears to have helped. The sprawlers that don't have any shade or protection sure look a little ragged. I yanked one yesterday which is the first empty hole I have. And may yank one more. I see the little black droppings of some insect. I never see the insect but know it is bad news when I see the droppings. All I can say is after I see the droppings is when I usually start seeing some insect borne disease. And possibly have one plant infected now. And maybe one pepper plant. But another round of horn worms won't be tolerated very well. I may go postal on them. LOL. Jay
