Need more information. If you don't want to use chemicals to kill weeds your best bet is to improve conditions and cultural practices and just get out there and pull them out. If you want to use chemicals from retail stores you need to tell us what type of grass it is and someone will know if what you want to use is safe on that. The time of year also plays an important part and so does the type of weeds.

As for chemicals, I will use whatever is needed to get rid of them. As for what type of weeds, all different types (i have no idea their names but i know they all look different). My lawn is St. Augustine. let me know what is best out there... Thanks again

Most of the common herbicides are not safe for use on St Aug grass. Read the label carefully when you are at the store. You should be able to find one with Atrazine as the active ingredient and it will say "safe for St Aug."

In general, set your mower as high as it will go and start mulch mowing regularly. Fertilize every 6 weeks or so while it is growing. Keep it watered. In short order, it will recover and fill in nicely. St Aug grows VERY aggressively if cared for properly.

Most of the weed killers labeled for Southern Lawns say Do not use on St. Augustine including Floratam, Carpetgrass, Centipede, Creeping Fescue, Dichondra or desirable clovers.

Do not recall if mine said safe for St. Augustine. I actually mow the lawn every week, but not mulch mowing... It is also set to the highest possible except for this area since the lawn has been so dead and mainly weeds growing. I can start mulch mowing in this area but if I raise it to the highest, then it will not chop much of the weeds. As for fertilizer do I use a simple lawn fertilizer or a weed and feed prodcut? Water is mainly not a problem esp. living in SFLA. I currently use around the house Lesco 24-2-11. Thanks again and let me know...

Do you know what variety of St.Augustine you have?

If you know for sure your S.A. is not a dwarf variety, You should always mulch mow at the highest setting, year round.

No weed and feed, unless you want to kill the rest of your lawn.

For now, I would hold off on fertilizing. Your grass is already stressed.

Oh no it is not dwarf for sure.... So I will stick with Lesco one I usedin the past and hold off on the fertilizing of the easement. So mulch mow all the time... Hmm doesn't that get a bit messy? Too much to pick up after isn't it?

Mulching mowers are a modification of rotary mowers. These are designed to cut leaf blades into very small pieces that decompose more quickly than leaf blades cut by conventional mowers. The mower blades are designed to create a mild vacuum in the mower deck until the leaf blades are cut into these small pieces. Mulching mowers do not have the traditional discharge chute as do most rotary mowers.

Clippings returned to the turf reduces yard waste and recycles nutrients to the turf.

The only time I bag my clippings is when I need "Greens" for my compost pile. Other than that, I always mulch mow.

I forgot to mention. You could apply a 1/4" thick layer of compost to the easement area. This will help your injured grass come back to life. I strongly recommend doing this instead of fertilizing.
