It's the beginning of the Fourth of July weekend. Weather's been OK; we have had a cool front come through this week and the highs are only in the low 90's. I don't have much planned, so if I do anything this weekend it will be impromptu in nature. The easy way to get out on the water is with the kayak. There are several options. One is from a flier posted at a local park, "Party, Anderson Creek, 3:00 pm, boats only." There will be a big fireworks display on the river at Decatur, at the water park. If I go to that one I will stage from the city harbour. There's a nice little river rat type bar there called the Hard Dock Cafe. If the harbour is crowed I can always launch from the causeway. That's probably safer, because the water is too shallow for most power boats. I do need to rig my kayak for night running, today, sometime.

Had dental surgery two weeks ago, and now only feel like getting out. I reckon that's why I haven't had much to say lately. Haven't trained much lately either and that needs to change too.

I've got a part time job lined up to start next week and a full time job that starts in the fall that I'll probably take.

Watched the game between Brazil and the Netherlands today. It's the first game that I really enjoyed. Way to go Orange!

There's another potentially good game tomorrow between Germany and Argentina. I will favour Germany.

We're swimming all weekend. Tomorrow night is the fireworks at Drake's Creek, but LF will want to swim since we'll be at sis's house. Which we're also going to again on Sunday for the 4th celebration. Then we'll go to the public pool on Monday. Swimming!

Just got back from seeing my new internist. I'm not thrilled. She told me I seemed anxious, but I just didn't have the heart to say, that's because you make me feel anxious! She sure didn't put me at ease. And she prescribed me meds for fibromyalgia. Wrong! I'll try it, but I don't have muscle aches or tenderness anywhere. Nor did I indicate that I did??? It's joint pain. And every person in my family has osteoarthritis diagnosed but me. I also talked to her about not sleeping, but she says it's stress. I have had stress, I have had no stress, over many years, and yet, I never sleep. Never. It ain't stress. I'm really disappointed I guess. I don't expect to feel 20, those days are gone, but I sure as heck shouldn't feel 60. Augh!

It's almost the weekend, 65 more minutes. Then I am going to kick and back and RE-lax. I'm ready!

Court is next week and then I'll be debt free. Hurray! The weekend after is the good bye party for the house that is also my parents' birthday party.

Steve and I were up at 4:00 am yesterday (ouch!) to catch our flights to Montreal. He's got a conference here all week, and I'm sticking around until Tuesday night just to play.

We got to the hotel a little after 1:00 yesterday and asked for a recommendation for a neighborhood in which to find a good restaurant. A five minute walk later, we found a great little restaurant specializing in charcuterie. We settled in with a couple of charcuterie sampler plates, a great bottle of wine, and watched the World Cup with the locals. My French is still a little rusty, but clumsy as I am, we're able to joke, communicate and carry on just fine.

We came back for a nap, and then joined another couple we know to walk to the huge international jazz festival that's going on. After dancing around in the audience for a couple of acts, we found an outdoor restaurant with great views of two stages, found a table where we could watch both while enjoying an excellent bottle of Cotes du Rhone, a cheese plate, and followed it up with some good port. We enjoyed one act in particular, and I intend to buy their music when I get a chance. They're called "Caravan Palace" and I think they're from Paris. High energy and a great sound... couldn't ask for any more!

This morning Steve and I figured out the metro (which is clean and does NOT smell like pee, as does every other I've ever been on). We took it (with some help from the very friendly locals) to a huge farmers market (Marche Jean-Talon) where we wandered around enjoying the sights, sounds, smells and tastes after starting out with some well-made espresso and chocolate/banana crepes. As cool as it is to have food from around the world at a farmers market, I fell in love with our little Madison farmer's market even more for the fact that our 300-some vendors sell entirely and only locally-produced foods.

Steve had to run to a meeting, and I'm contemplating a nap. We might try to see Cindy Lauper tomorrow night. She's singing the blues as part of the jazz festival. I've always enjoyed both her voice and personality. Or maybe we'll see if we can get tickets to the Cirque du Soleil... There's no shortage of stuff going on here.

I think I could live here. It's an interesting combination of big city, midwestern-style politeness, diversity, and French flavor. This is a great start to a most excellent adventure. :o)

Frozen concoction machine? I thought you meant an ice cream maker, but the more I think about smoothies and woozies being drinks, you mean the one that swirls and has a handle that releases the goodness? Happy vacating! I'm soaked, the remainder of Hermine's eye got me good. I had to walk to the car to get my name badge so that I could withdraw money from the credit union, and the downpour came inbetween the building and the car. I have to replace the heater core on my car and it needs hoses to go with it. So I got out enough money for labor and the hoses. I already bought the heater core a couple of months ago. It's starting to get cold though and I need for the boy to be warm. My shoes are squishing and my hair looks funky. Hurricane season, harumph. I'm looking forward to Sunday when the weather will have passed, my remaining boxes will get moved to storage and my new chair (new to me, mom is giving me her's) goes in. I'm funky too. I am irritable and so is the LF. Don't know if we're doing it to each other or just happened at the same time. Hope we get a new attitude on this, the last weekend of the pool until next May. If we don't get to swim, it'll be too sad. We can go if it rains, but doesn't have thunderstorms. And, less other people will be there. We may be cold, but we'll swim. I wrote on my Facebook account that I can't tell what day of the week it is. Doesn't feel like Friday. The nandinas are turning red, the trees are turning yellow and orange. It's here!

It was about the same here. Temperature at 8 a.m. was 70, but it warmed up quick, especially on the run. It's 92 right now. I just missed the time I was shooting for. That's inconsequential to the fact that when I took my blood pressure after the race it was 125/75. If I keep up with the exercising and weight loss I should soon not need any pharmaceuticals for the bp. One takes life's little victories where one can..

Dorph, I have a CD by Jim Malcolm called 'Tam O'Shanter & Other Tales'. He put the whole poem to music; it's 15 minutes and 37 seconds. I was so happy to have seen him perform live a few years ago. The CD is available on amazon and Itunes. Speaking of Ipod apps - At a Mary Flower concert a few months ago (she plays acoustic blues), she was tuning her guitar using a tuning app on her Iphone. I love the pic, Coco, and have a feeling I'd love the dog as well. Jan, the "fun" never ends for you, does it? Hope Sassi recovers soon. Cataracts are only OK in that they are something that can be repaired, but I'm sure you (and Sassi and Neil) could have done without the excitement. Dorph, that sounds like a party I'd love to go to! It's almost 11:00 and I'm still in my PJs --- and not thinking about changing that anytime soon. My big conference is over as of last night. It went very well. I just need to tie up loose ends, but I get to start my annual 2 month hiatus from work in a month and a half, and I'm counting the days. Tomorrow morning I'm checking in to a very peaceful place for a full day of pampering. Cleansing bath ritual, massage, swimming in a very heated outdoor pool, spa pampering, fancy lunch, unwinding with a girlfriend... heaven! I get home just in time to have some of our Bulgarian friends over for trick or treating fun. We've known the husband for seven of the ten years he's lived in the states (6-9 months out of the year). We finally witnessed him become a citizen just last month. His wife of four years (whom we met when we were in Bulgaria a few years ago) finally got a Green Card, so she and their two year old son, who were unable to enter the US prior to this, took their first plane rides to leave their country for the first time ever two months ago. They think the boy is too young for trick or treating, so I asked them to put him in a costume and help me pass out bags of Sun Chips to the 125-ish trick or treaters I expect between 5-7 on Sunday night. (He's the only kid in their apartment building, so I doubt Halloween would be much fun there.) I thought it would be both a fun way to get acclimated to a new country, and an engaging way for the boy to practice the whole "thank you" / "you're welcome" exchange in English. The puppy is growing so dang fast, I hardly recognized her after three days away at a hotel. I'm looking forward to getting her prepped for her first hunting trip to ND the week of Thanksgiving. No, I don't expect her to be any good, but my dad has a young pup too, and our goal is to introduce them to what is genetically destined to be their life's passion in a gradual and fun way. So I'm vacillating between extreme excitement and extreme relaxation this weekend. And I'm excited to be extremely relaxed tomorrow...

Between trying to bake, cook and to rearrange the downstairs for a 4th invasion, had to watch Wimbledon, the World Cup and the LaFontain Games. Well, today it's just Wimbledon and the visitors.
Has anybody any rain they don't need? My lawn is turning brown and I have to water the vegetables and flowers every day. Luckily I have a neighbor who does it the days I am not around these two weeks and I take care of her garden the last two weeks in July.

Rob, I've been 60&60+ for almost 10 years now and it has been a great decade. I do a whole lot of outdoor activities and I don't have many physical limitations. You go girl, find out what's up with you so you can enjoy every decade.
