Sowing grass seed during drought

Hello, I live outside of Bellbrook, OH and I think I can count the number of times on one hand that it has rained all summer. The ground is very dry. Mine looks a little better than some thanks to large shade trees. But the ground is very hard. I hand picked a lot of the crabgrass out and would like to work some topsoil or refined compost into the barespots. But these record breaking 90+ degree days just keep coming. Its almost October and I still don't feel like its quite time to sow grass seed. The problem is, now the leaves are falling hard and could crowd out the baby grasses even if they do germinate. I've got 3/4 of an acre and would have to run 100' or more of garden hose to water the seed in. I would like to germinate the seed naturally without the garden hose. This is why I keep putting off laying down the seed. Every time I check the weatherman for the 5 day forecast it calls for clear conditions with a slight chance of rain once in a blue mood. The rain never seems to come.
