Ivy (2 this week) is learning her birds. She can name these from her back yard. Can you?

Well, let's just say Ivy's a better birder than me! Their minds amaze me at that age. The learn so much and so fast!

I've got a couple of Julia to share from the weekend. In the first one she's bundled up a bit for a walk to the park over the weekend. And her bottle's not really THAT big! In the other she's wearing the "Little Lady" outfit she finally fits in that I got back at Valentines Day.

Hard to believe that she'll be six months old in 10 days!

Six months! Oh my....
We have an eight month old now and he is saying Mamamama these days and idolizing his big sister. Yeah Leo Spencer!

Today is Ivy Rayne's second birthday. This is how her party went at Easter time with her half brother.

Today she celebrated by going to her 2 year checkup. Mum skipped off work to go to Ivy's DR appt and eat lunch. She was such a happy girl.. They played giant Lego in the Dr's office for about an hour and she had a blast (yes he was running that late). Ivy is healthy as a horse, complete with scrapes and bruises...

Weight: 25lbs (about 50% for WHO charts - up from 3rd % at 1yr!)
Height: 34.5" (about 75% for WHO charts)
Weight for height: about 35-40% - in other words, middlin' skinny... but she's FAT compared to what she used to be!!!
Oh, and the height estimate is 5'7" - She'll be shorter than Sarah!

And then they went out and ate Carribean food at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant and it was delicious (though spicy).

Tomorrow Daddy and daughter start gymnastics classes. Mom has a VERY busy day of work, then soccer coach for Skyler's team, then over to gymnastics to pick up Leo, then dinner out and off to her hockey game after that. Oyyy. Then work the next morning...

Paula, I can't believe you had to go to work in this mess. Well, yes I can, because it is the FAA after all. You be careful out driving in this and especially walking on the parking lots and sidewalks! So many people are falling and breaking bones and stuff. Tracy, I'm just across the river from Gainesville and while I-35 is a mess, Gainesville itself is basically fine. As far as I know, their power has remained on more or less and they only had 3-4" of snow. Some people on the Texas side of the Red River have had minor rolling blackouts where the power is out for about 15 minutes at a time about once every couple of hours, but I think that all occurred yesterday and not today, and I don't even know if the affected area included Gainesville. I know it included a lot of the D-FW metroplex. DH drives through Gainesville on his way to work and thought Gainesville seemed fine once you get away from the low-lying river valley area along the highway where all the traffic problems are occurring. If you want to see the Gainesville news, you can go to KXII.com or visit the webpage of the Gainesville newspaper, which I've linked below. Most of the "bad news" (other than travelers rolling over on or sliding off of I-35) locally seems to be coming more from the Sherman and Denison area than from the Ardmore, Marietta, and Gainesville area, if that is any consolation. Maybe your friends are down in Fort Worth for the Stock Show? I'm sorry to hear the cold has hit your plants so hard. It doesn't seem fair that the cold would hit y'all that hard after you already had to endure all the summer heat. Hang in there and when your DH finishes his degree, y'all can move back here where the weather is more normal. Well, OK, not exactly normal, but you know what I mean. Claire - love your Halloween pumpkins. When we went on vacation, the squirrels made a feast of our pumpkins - we came home to a few little remnants on the front steps! I've had a busy month - so I'm posting all my October garden photos now. My tomatoes in October were fabulous! My best tomato year ever. Hydrangea Paniculata Tardiva has taken on the pinkish hue I vaguely recall getting a division of a chysanthemum about 4 years ago from an old neighbor. I had almost forgotten about it until it bloomed this year. And I seem to remember it being pink! Not the happiest plant, but at least it bloomed this year! Maybe there is hope for future years? Morning Glories have finally covered the brush pile with foliage and blossoms Brown Eyed Susans continue to put on a show Fall foliage. The tree in front is a red maple - this is the tree that was devastated by the winter moth caterpillar. This year it has colored yellow before turning red - it typically goes straight to red. (This photo was taken on the 24th). Behind the red maple is a silver maple with absolutely no color - just holding onto the green leaves. And finally - some snowliage photos from this past weekend.

Nice, franeli. The berries are really striking once the leaves drop - your garden is way further into fall than my MA garden is. The foliage is changing rapidly here. This is my stone wall garden on a cloudy misty day. The Itea and cotoneaster are quickly developing their fall color. I'm photographing them expecting any day that the leaves will suddenly drop and the color will be gone. Itea virginica Henry's Garnet Just beginning to emerge from the cotoneasters is one of two little dwarf conifers (Pinus sylvestris Albyn's Prostrate) which is obscured by asters and iris earlier in the season. I have three little conifers in there, including a Bosnian pine cultivar, and I'm hoping that they will give a much stronger presence when they get a little bigger. Climbing up the porch is a Rose Zepherine Drouhin which has a couple of blooms on it. From the porch I can see the roses with a backdrop of itea and hydrangea color. Claire

Ivy has me beat, Bug. I'm a terrible birder. Two years old, already and just keeps getting more adorable! So, how does she like gymnastics?

LOL! That bottle picture is a great optical illusion, Laura! My goodness, she's got big, beautiful eyes :)

I can almost smell it from here.

Pudgy and clearly ready to "shoot up" they look OK to me. But do they know how to, "sit", "stay"?? OH yeah... they're too under-developed to comprehend something so simple. ;)

I've given lots of latitude. Use it wisely!

Ivy was the youngest in the gymnastics class Brenda, so they decided to wait a while for that and maybe work on swimming with her in the meantime.
