The holes look like slug damage to me. If plants are being sheared off at the ground, I'd suspect cutworms. Another problem with eggplants is flea beetles, but that doesn't look like standard flea beetle damage. (Flea beetles leave lots of holes in the leaves)

If you want to test to see if you have slugs, put out a shallow pan of beer. Next morning, if it's got several drowned slugs, then you might need to take more action.

If it's slugs, the best and easiest method I've found (and I've tried them all because I get lots of slugs) is an iron phosphate bait. In fact I just bought my second bag of it for this year...that's how many slugs I have. Usually you'll have to go to an organic store to find it (Sluggo is one brand), but our Lowes is carrying another brand. About ten bucks for a bag.

Iron phosphate is found in the soil, and is considered organic. Doesn't hurt any of the other critters and is safe for wildlife and pets. It's little white pellets that you sprinkle around, and when you notice the pellets are gone, sprinkle some more until they stop disappearing. The slugs love it, it causes them to immediately stop eating, and a few days later they crawl off to die. Sad but true.

If it's cutworms, a little foil around the stems at ground level will stop them, but those leaves in the holes don't suggest cutworms.

And if it's a vole or some other critter....I use Shake Away with good success. In fact it worked so well, I ran off an entire population of wild rabbits. :( Not my intention, but they went elsewhere. It's another organic product and available many places. A powder made of bobcat and coyote urine, makes the critters think there's a bobcat nearby. You just sprinkle it around the perimeter. It's supposed to work on cats and dogs too, but my neighbors cat isn't bothered a bit by it....he often lounges in my garden. (I'm a cat lover, so it's okay...he hurts nothing)

Sorry for the long post. My first guess would really be slugs based on those holes.

I was looking at the pictures again, and wondering, are those some kind of copper strips around the plants? If so, it's not slugs because slugs won't cross copper.

Yes, I have put copper strips around it to keep the slugs/snails away.

Also have used Shake-away. but the label says it needs atleast a week to work..

I also have some tomato plants, but whatever it is.. it doesn't bother the leaves and just goes for the flowers..
