On orchids I'd think thrips, but I've never seen them in my garden, just on orchids (or gesneriads) being isolated after purchase. If thrips, soapy water takes care of them (at least it does on orchids and gesneriads).

They look like aphids to me, though I've personally never seen brown aphids, so that's just a guess. I had the white, pink, and green ones in my garden. I just kill them by hand, and though it is a daily chore, it's actually quite satisfying! It takes very little pressure to smush the boogers, and at least that way, I know they're dead. It's easier for me than spraying the soapy water and just hoping they die.

I'd agree on the aphids call, can squash or hose them off the plants.

If there are too many aphids to squish, you can mix a little, tiny bit of dish soap with water and spray it on your plant. Be sure to rinse the plant off when you're done, and maybe keep the plant shaded for the day. The mixture will make the plant more likely to burn in the sun... I learned this the hard way and almost killed my tomato, but likely he rebounded :)

Thank you for all your responses. The spray seemed to work - the infestation is much much better. I will keep an eye on the plant and others.
