I went hunting for wildflowers, didn't find the ones I sought, perhaps it is a bit early for the iris and the blue eyed grass, so all I could get is a picture of my house, as seen from across the pond. I think it's amazing how many shades of green there are this time of the year

That is a beautiful photo illustrating the many hues of green. I've also been amazed at how many greens there are, even in one tree.
DD lives in Northern CA, and she has been taking wildflower walks since March and have found a lot of them. I think its a weather thing, her weather is totally different than mine here in the valley and probably different than yours.

Point Reyes is a very special place, south of here and by the ocean, some of these will show up here in a couple of weeks or so.
My daughter is going horse camping with a riding group at Point Reyes in late June, she is riding a friend's horse

Thanks. This season my 5 and 2 year old have been helping me raise some monarchs and black swallowtails. This is my first time raising them as well, so we're all learning a lot in the process...like how to ID milkweed and that I need to plant lots more fennel and carrots next season. :) We are all much more excited about getting out and seeing what we can discover. I think they're learning a healthy respect and appreciation of nature. I can't think of a more fun way for us to spend our summer together. Thanks to everyone for answering so many of my questions here and for posting such great pictures and questions of your own. I learn something new every time I check in. This is a great resource! All I have for it is the knee jerk name of Ponytails. Gag me with a meathook! I would love to know the parentage of the hybrid, if it is a hybrid. I found a picture of a large specimen on a flicker site and sent an inquiry about the plant , but have heard nothing back yet. The plant was by a old mexican market in a small town somewhere in Mexico, I know not where. The site it was on was a Mexican photographer/ biologist site. Maybe it is NOT a hybrid. When I got the plant, It had just arrived from the growers at a nursery. On my way out, 5 people saw it and ran , yes ran, to the C&S section . It was not there long. I already have a line of people begging for a pad. It will never get large at this rate. Matter of fact it will disappear into nothingness in its pot. Felix ~ That was a wonderful morning walk! What a treat to be able to do that every morning. Your paths make me want to work on mine more, as they are overgrown and in need of some work. I love both the grass and brick paths. You have so much to see there, that I'll need to take another tour. Love your spiderwort, and Texas sage. I have them both and I love seeing their blooms. Your roses are pretty. Listening to the music was a nice touch also. It really puts you in an altered state. You have a nice sized piece of property, with plenty of space to meander through lovely gardens. Love your water features also. Happy Gardening ~ FlowerLady

To go for a nature walk is for me now a major untertaking . Where I formerly could walk 50 yards and was in woods, country lanes and fields, I have now front and backyards, asphalt and parking lots. A golf driving range, mowed weekly, also fenced, is sprayed, no flowers there. The most wildflowers I can find are in my backyard. When we moved here, we were in the country.

Anneliese, the same thing happened here. We had 25 good years here. Some people never have one. We were lucky.

DS gave me a sheet impregnated with wildflower seeds. All it said was to cover with 1/4" of soil and water twice a day. I planted them a couple of days ago. A first time experience for me.
Has anyone tried this kind of planting?

Never tried it but sounds like it will give you a beautiful bed of flowers. Remeber, in the wild seeds will grow pretty much anywhere with barely any soil over them, this sounds abseloutely perfect if I'm honest!
