I know this is a coke v. pepsi kind of thing, but the one inexpensive Lawn Boy I had 20 years ago was the worst mower I have ever touched. I won't be crying about there being no more of those if that is the case.

I think they canceled the line a while back, they just continued painting Toros green and putting the Lawn Boy on them for some reason. What's the difference once you take away the deck and the two stroke engine anyway?

Lawnboys are not green Toros. For example, there are many differences between the Toro SR4 and Lawnboy Platinum lines, deck and engine choices being the main ones.

In fact, I don't think they share hardly any parts. Maybe a couple pulleys and a belt. They are very different mowers, the Lawnboys are superior baggers while the Toros are superior mulchers. Lawnboys are probably a little better all-around for those that do both IMO.

So would you say the "Lawn Boys" Toro sells are closer to what people think of as "Lawn Boys" or closer to what people think of as Toros? Lawn Boys are only Lawn Boys in name today, it is just another Toro line with green paint.

You can quit harping about the 2-cycle. It's gone. Toro makes the Lawn-Boy brand hoping to cash in on the Lawn-Boy reputation. The model line is quite different than the Toro line, from bottom to top. I'm hoping they are not dropping the LB line because the current models are the best mowers out there. I have a 2004 10684 and a 2007 22271. As far as I can tell from the Toro site, they do not have a Toro that is the same form, fit and function as either one. I looked at the Toro SR4 many times over a period of several years at the local hardware store. The main things that kept me from buying one were; ordinary engine and a definitely light front end, even with the empty bag. If I'm going to have a regular flathead engine, I'm not paying $600 for the mower. I bought the 10684 for half that price and liked it so much that I was considering the Platinum 10795 (same deck design but aluminum, with Honda GCV 160cc engine) when I discovered the commercial 22271 with Honda commercial GSV 190cc. I had to have one, and it has not disappointed. Unless Toro has come up with a new model, I don't believe they have a mower like that in their lineup. Even the lowest-priced LB outperforms the Recyclers in most every area.

This is interesting about lawn boy if it is true. I have owned L/B for over 35 years and would not have anything else. When my neighbors are buying a new mower every 4years or sooner I am still on my second mower. I have 2 1/2 acres to cut and have used this mower for the past 20 plus years. Starts on the second pull every year since I have had it. The only thing I have had to do is replace blades and clean the air filter and put clean gas mix in. Oh and only my second spark plug also. Last year I did finally purchase there self propelled rear bagger model only because I was on a river trip to the Grand Canyon for a month and had to have my wife do the mowing for me while I was gone. It has the Honda engine. My feeling was years ago if Toro and L/B would get together they would make a wonderful mower and I think they have. The only thing that has made the L/B of today a better unit is putting on a honda engine and a better self propelled drive system (Toros). It is either a Honda or OMC 2 cycle for me.
