Interesting tidbit #2; The so called ''sweet onions'' like Walla Walla and Vidalia are delicious just to eat even when they are thumb size to golf ball size.

i wonder if i'm orchid people, or mini rose people? ARE there mini rose people? this whole forum is so quiet, all things considering.... my mini continues to thrive, but i notice the buds are opening as they are very tiny, i assume that has to do with the amount of sunlight it receives? the spike on my sharry baby is opening before it gets long enough to match its histor (this is my first actual winter with it), so i think that the sun is effecting everyone. do you think this mini would be happiest if i repotted all four of them before they started to die off? i've depotted the guy, and the soil *was not* a mash of roots, and i've only lost a few spriglets of leaves to browntip, and no infestations at all so far. the leaves that were tiny when i purchased the guy, are huge now. it looks like it *might* be trying to be leggy, but i can't tell yet. pardon me for saying so -- but damn, mini roses are engrossing fun.

I still had lots of food in the house, but DH told me to go ahead and stock up since he'll probably be on the road for 5-6 weeks this time and the immediate future of our para-transit sytem is iffy at best right now due to budget cuts. (We won't know its fate until March 19. On the 22nd, we'll either have it or it's immediately gone.) So, hey, I'm no dummy. I stocked up. Trader Joes - greek yogurt eggs Cheddar cheese bacon almonds frozen haibut frozen green beans frozen mixed veggies frozen mixed peppers frozen naan butter canned diced tomatos quinoa mustard Regular Grocery Store bread Tortillas raisins black beans lentils canned tuna (my lucky day - albacore at .79 a can!) 5# chicken breasts (on sale at .99 a pound!) 2# pork bag of baking potaotes 2 cucumbers 3 onions 2 gree peppers # asparagas quart strawberries 1/2 gal milk canned mixed fruit # bananas # mushrooms garlic limes flour olive oil freezer bags pinto beans # coffee 2 boxes tea bags On the clearance shelf, we found organic pommegranate juice, V8, cherry juice and peanuts for $1.00 eash. The store isn't going to carry them anymore. So we got two each of those. And I had coupons for two free bottles of laundry soap that expire at the end of the month, so I got those now. Total - too much. OTOH, I'm set for another 4-5 weeks except highly perishable items like lettuce or milk. (Althogh I have some canned milk if I really need it.) That doesn't include the things we get for DH to take on the road as I consider his road supplies separate from my grocery budget.

Different packaging might be from the wholesalers that usually delivery to restaurants. ALL of my packaging from our wholesaler is different, and even brands I've never heard of. (they started delivering to homes 5-6 weeks ago). They are breaking up case lots for home delivery. So guessing groceries are taking some of their stock. I felt like I was in a foreign country when that first delivery arrived. And yes, my butter is a pound block. I tossed it in the freezer as a later back-up. Grrr when I just needed to take out just a 'stick' this morning, lol. Nice tray of green! I just started a 5x7 tray each of Thai basil, cilantro, par-cel, arugula, etc. Fresh and more intense flavor at just a couple inches tall. But tend to be slow growing...4-6 weeks. Minor annoyance.
