I just won an old Lawn Boy auction on Ebay. Can anyone help ID the thing for me? Any info is appreciated.

Old Ironhorse "A" series engines aren't they? I've never seen one with the neat cooling shroud on it. Most I've seen don't have that.

I am not sure this is a lawn boy. It says made by RPM model 8TH12FW. I wonder who Fedway was???

If history is going to repeat itself i have to say go with the TORO, they are tied with Honda for most reliable according to consumer reports. thay're also known as the best mulchers on the block. i know the lawn boy and the toro's are made in the same facility nowadays(i think) but still the toro's come with a better reputation. i own several lawnmowers, toro, craftsmen, weedeater and have owned even more over the years, snapper, ariens. i bought my toro (20016) almost 4 years ago and have been trying to kill it ever since...and can't. i'll never buy anything else, it has the tecumseh lv195ea 6.5 hp. hope this helps.

"684576 is the current part number. About $66.00 each at most parts outlets" Wow! I paid $35 ea. for those a couple of years ago and though that was robbery. You can find used ones of these wheels at mower shops, bone yards that do not have the gear in them, drill the three plastic plugs/rivets, holding the gear on your old wheel and mount it on on the other wheel with screws. I have had dozens of these with this problem. I don't know why so many complain about the carbureators being plastic, etc. but they are so simple to work on. Just clean the carb and I usually remove the pilot jet and clean the orifices with a thin wire as well as the main jet orifice. I highly recommend installing a good gas filter like the larger Briggs clear style you can get anywhere. I have made them standard fare on my Lawn Boys for years. I don't like those "York Peppermint Patties" filters though. While you're in the carb you may want to do the minor mod on the jets (very very simple) to make her run better and less prone to clogging in the future. Walt is correct, if the dealer gave you that line, he really doesn't understand 2 cycle engines. They are incredibly simple once understood. But that can probably be said about anything in life. BTW, the elcheapo throttle control plastic detent typically breaks and I wouldn't worry about it. It is really for the idiots who can't figure out what a choke setting is. The better alum. deck models got a better throttle control, much smoother.

The C-10 number is the engine model. It was the first of the C engines that came in three sizes , 1 15/16", 2 1/8", and 2 1/4" inch bore.yours is the smallest one. Lawn Boy was still using the RPM manufacturing style deck(OMC had bought them out). The ID for the mower should be on the back of the deck. Lawn Boy ,in '55 had introduced the staggered wheel deck style that stayed in the line, on the 18" utility mowers until the late '60's. I'm guessing that your mower is a rope start model, much like some of the models in ths VERY old post. There should be a number plate on the back of the deck. Maybe it's 8F20??.

'Rotary Power Mower' was the first company formed to make the newfangled rotary mower. Ole Evinrude of OMC (Outdoor Marine) provided the 2-cycle engines and later bought out RPM to form Lawn-Boy. I don't know what 'Fedway' is, but I've heard of 'Henway'.

I finally figured out from the internet that Fedway was a division of Federated Department Stores.So Fedway probably had the Fedway Supreme sticker slapped on the RPM mower.
