I still have that crock on my counter, made many years ago at a local pottery. I keep my most frequently used utensils in it and out of the drawers because they are 'never-never' land. Once stuff goes in a drawer, then it's hunt and peck and maybe never seen for months.

Yes, I still have some wooden utensils and I can't seem to part with them, and yes, they still get used. Mostly big spoons of all descriptions. I love to mix with wooden spoons, and use them when I am making jellies too. I had to get rid of my wooden spaghetti fork, because the tines fell out in my food. LOL.

My trivets and hot pads are wooden too. And have wooden cutting boards on my counter and a wooden book holder so I can read directions when I cook.

Wood is warm to the touch, and it's naturally antibacterial. What utensils aren't wood are heavy stainless steel. I am a serious cook and I don't have a lot of fancy or silly little electrical appliances, but I do have utensils and pans and knives and bowls enough to cook for an army.

Yep...in an old beater crock, wooden spoons and a couple of those silicone scrapers, that don't melt if you leave them in the hot grease or jelly....and a wonderful old silver, Polish, 800 parts fine ladle. Looks like it has ladled up a ton of goulash!
I love wooden spoons, scrapers, boards and bowls.

No crock -- it didn't come along on one of the moves; but wooden spoons (the olivewood is the only one to survive extensive breadmaking service), and boards for cutting or kneading. At one time there were bamboo steamers and screens, and monkeywood salad bowls, but that time was long ago. But yes, silicone scrapers and sloopers of the sort that is a solid unit from blade tip through handle -- of the old scrapers with rubber or silicone blades on wooden or plastic handles, one look at the gunk hidden where the blade was attached to the handle was all it took for them to make a one-way trip to the trash bin.

If it isn't wooden, then it's SS or glass.

I don't use trivets, and my hot pads are self-made in a double-knotted crochet. Flexible enough to get the cookie pan or iron skillet from the oven and sturdy enough to protect counters and tables from a pot just off the fire.

I like gadgets, or perhaps I should say that I like trying them out. Few are electric since I am more fascinated with mechanical ingenuity. Electric help is good for things that require brute strength or cooking, but gadgets are stuff that makes the little jobs easier. The ones that don't pass my "does it do a better job easier" tests go to the Salvation Army store, for what doesn't suit me may be just the thing that someone else wants.

Nope. Not any more. I have an impatient husband who loves to shove the stuff down into the blender with MY wooden spoons. Pina Coladas aren't very good with splinters.

But I do love wooden utensils.

nothing better to mix cookie batter with..i don't like the feel of wood in my mouth though...so not so likely to lick the spoon

Other than those, that's it.

Neil hates having all the gadgets stuck down in a crock or
one of those things that spin around.
He does the dishes and he leaves them all on the counter
top.

I'll tell you what I do love and have lots of and that is
Martha Stewart's covered bowls and containers, now those
are worth their weight in gold. I gave all the girls a set
for Christmas and they all have thanked me for them many
times.
Even the husbands say they love them. One of the guys told
me that's what I could give him for his birthday. He loves
to take soup and chili to work to heat up for lunch.

Never liked wooden spoons. Don't know why. But I have a local made pottery vase from down in Calliope's neck of the woods, just recently bought (as a replacement) to hold my old silver plated spoons and forks that I use to cook and bake with. Nothing like those long very sharply pointed forks to whip up eggs, cream butter and flip bacon.

Love my wooden spoons, even though I use now a silicon spatula with a wooden handle a lot. Got one spoon wich is down to the size of a quarter. It was used by my grandfather, then my mother and now by me, mainly for stirring the flour when making roux. The whole bunch of utensils sits in an equally old crock which had been used for making pickles.

Another person with the crock (well actually about three of them) on the kitchen counter. We have lots of wooden utensils and, IMO, there's nothing better to use when creaming butter than a wooden spoon.

Unfortunately, the wooden utensils have a short life span here. The dog also loves then & finds them an even tastier chew toy than his rawhide bones.

I also have a crock beside my stove with some wooden utensils in it. One Christmas my sister bought me a slotted "runcible" spoon made of bamboo. I love that one, too.

Yup, have a crock or three. I also have a lot of silicone spatulas of various sizes and shapes. Also plenty of wooden spoons and my favorite pasta fork is the wooden one. I have been waiting for years for the pegs to fall out because I always notice how the glue sort of bulges or looks soft after I use it, but it's still going strong. I have a stainless steel one too that is waiting in the wings, just in case.

My very favorite wooden spoon is a fairly large rather thick one that has a point on one side and a hole in the middle. That baby can stir some stiff stuff like bread dough without fazing it.

My favorite frying spatulas though are the old wooden handles thin spatulas with slots. They don't make them that thin anymore. They're so easy to maneuver in tight spaces for turning things over.

We love our toaster/bagel tongs. No more burnt fingers and they can really fish things out that were really too small to be put in the toaster.

Andie I'm wondering how the dog gets those spoons. Smiles. Counter surfing? Dogs do love sticks.

Mention of making roux reminded me that the microwave is used here for roux and then to complete the sauce/gravy...love being able to leave the stubby wooden paddle in my big Pyrex mixing bowl after I stir...no harm done by leaving in microwave so far. And also I can thump wood against the side or top of bowl with less fear of chipping glass.

And you don't burn your lips as easily when tasting from a wooden spoon. lol josh

Yes, yes, yes - I have to use wooden spoons. And, despite the newly re-done kitchen, the spoon crock is still in its essential spot, next to the stove.

Himself likes silicone ones, but I need the wooden ones - experience teaches you the way something should 'feel' with a wooden spoon. A different material requires a whole new learning curve. I have spoons that must be at least 30 years old. Wooden spatulas are essential to me too. I've been known to file them thinner at the tips, with sandpaper, too.

I couldn't say how many spoons I have. 8 maybe?

My dog, who you wouldn't think is agile at all, is a world class counter surfer. It's amazing how he can get things that we've pushed waaay back on the counters & how he can get to things that are way up there. Now we've taken to putting things we really don't want to get into his clutches into the microwave. He hasn't learned to open the door......yet.
