I'm beyond grateful

The last 13 days have been a blur, I don't remember much of it at all. Remember going to the ER and 6 days later being loaded in the ambulance.

Now after reading all the nice things you have said I'm embarassed but it feels like I have gained a new family, a whole bunch of sisters, daughters and cousins and it seems you all have a mother hen complex, meant in the nicest way.

Thanks for the prayers, good wishes cards and letters. They helped immeasurably.

Now after this, as annliese mentioned-chemo should be a walk in the park

Welcome back and thanks for the words. Glad your spirits are on the way up. Family is what you make it and what you bring is stability , perseverance, devotion and great stories. You and Leone are the heart beat of Nebraska and a centering force here on this forum. How could we not throw good words your way.

So....here is how I have digested all this info: (BTW, when I went three yrs without repotting, it was because I did not know any better and I have NO IDEA how I got so lucky with such hardy and healthy plants. They were all 7 bucks from Costco!!! All have been repotted since and most have lived on and bloomed.) Yes - light and root rot seem to be my issues. So, I am tracking the light and moving plants around. Was not ready for harsh autumn sun low in the sky. Watering...am "listening" to my orchids more now. The Yellow Boy that was in root rot crisis...had a nice little trim of his roots and potted him shallow in clean medium. Happy plant! Blooms are busting out all over now and the one scary, curly leaf is just ready to fall off. My sad Vanda that was under-watered for so long....drum roll please....has 2 new leaves AND 2 new spikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gee, amazing what some water can do :o) I love the idea of creating a monthly calendar and index cards for each plant to keep track...that is right up my alley and I think it will be important in assimilating information and making sure each has what it needs. I do not plan on mounting any of my orchids at this time. I have cats, so mounted orchids are just cats toys waiting to have their roots ripped off! I love having my vanda as a hanging orchid and will likely stik with Phals and Cids from here forward. Fertilizer and lights (artificial) still have me a bit stumped, but I know there is tons of info available here for me to search. I love the simple and basic stuff best and am happy to have the tip on peroxide. I have mostly clay pots but have plastic liners...considering removing the plastic as an aid to prevent root rot. Thanks for that tip. Water quality: well, I use the same water as the guy down the road who has prize winning orchids, so I am guessing it is OK, but I have learned to heat it in the microwave for a few seconds first and my plants really seem to like that. I will likely join the Cape Fear Orchid Society, but thanks for the tip on AOS...think I will look in to that too. I have reviewed the recommended books and added a couple to my christmas list. Light light light...that is where I am going to direct my focus next. THANK YOU...ALL of you! :o)

Ladies may I join you in this discussion? I am a young healthy looking 62. And today is my first visit here after looking up adrenaline I sure understand better now That's what I have going on MY NATURE'S PACE MAKER.working. Adrenaline After a stay in icu heart recently everyone finally agreed i am mot crazy.it was.my heart. The docs installed is a device catch my heart acting badly is a heart tracker like halter monitor. Under my chest muscles on top of my heart. I can cause it record what just happened.. iam write with excitment because your stories are all so familiar. These stories for me begin after mitral valve repair. 7 years ago. Basic problem ..unless the doc sees the heart behaving badly they deny the problem. All this time we never could catch it Last doc said bluntly if we dont see it didnt happen. You must to er Well recent at 230 am it woke me up, just as you have described. I went directly to the er They caught the serious thing! Arrithemia and more then two days in icu. Now meds have slowed my heart from 70 to 52 while docs decide what to do. Last night I realized I was having an adreilin rush. The same rush I went to a neurologist for help. Over a year and half. Often it also affect my skin. Goose bumps crawling feeling all day long! Well have I got news for him.I was not crazy about that either. my gp I visited last month just to say. I know you don't know what is wrong but I still got it. Knows too I sat in neros office two months ago ,,,same thing. I said dr i just want you know ME when I end up in er..and i need you. well it was er straight to icu. Home now with electrical issues. Last last night meds have my average at 52 bpm.it woke me. 2 3 am. I use my tricks to get back to sleep.as soon as felt sleep coming on the stomach feeling spread. It woke me up heart pounding.sweat .out of breath!!! Happened several times . then checked average heart rate on my Garmin. 48. Average 48 so i was probably lower. Maybe 45! My natural pace maker kicked in every time sleep lowered bpm and I was short on air. Natural pace maker? Adrenaline can't wait to see what was recorded on my device Thank you body! Now I think i know what as going on for long time hidden from doc view. Electric shock adrenaline style

Yeah we get freezes throughout winter and the roses actually do just fine. They seem to like the cold better than my 100+ degree summers. I get a lot of dieback and sometimes complete death in the summer due to sunburn. But I've never lost a rose to winter freezing temps. Of course, we don't go much below 34 degrees and not usually for a very long period. I've also got a lot of succulents in pots on my porch and breezeway. I don't believe I've ever lost any of them. The only things I've lost to freezing temps are the Martha Washington geraniums and any coleus I might still have left. Roses are pretty tough. They can survive a lot of different adversities. And they really seem to like the cold. I also have roses blooming now. My winters are much colder than your normal ones in SoCal. And even so, I'm finding most of them don't really go totally dormant even in our coldest yrs. They have a lot more disease right now, but it's nice to just get a few bloomers here and there before spring hits.

Welcome home!!!!!!

The first hymn we sang was 'Amazing Grace' at the nursing home today during our little church service----I was sitting next to one of my favorite ladies---she's Afican-American, wears brightly colored scarves in her hair, neon glitter over her eyebrows, and she sings like a Nightingale---her voice forgave the rest of us and just spiraled on its own sweet way. I tried to send some of her beauty your way to help brighten your day, also!

I'm so glad you're home again! Things seem better, now.

Gandle,thank you for letting us know how you are feeling.You've been family for a long time,part of the glue holding the GP together and making it such a special place.You have a lot of grit and so does that wonderful wife of yours. What a good morning. George, I am so glad that you are on the mend. We need you around here to keep us grounded and I appreciate that there is somebody else who remembers way back when.
Now take good care of yourself and listen to Leone and your doctor. We love you.

I just wanted to chime in here with best wishes, and glads to see you here - and to tell you that my aunt has been taking the chemo treatments for non-Hodgkins lymphoma for several years... she's coping just fine, enjoying her life of retirement near her children. She will be 90 next year.

Not sure I'm spelled it correctly, or that its the precise disgnosis you got, but do want to assure you that modern medicine can accomplish wonders these days.

It's GREAT to have you back!! I may have mentioned it before, but my father-in-law came from Nebraska. I have always pictured you as looking like him. He was a special person. It must be the water in Nebraska that makes wonderful men.

George, I'm so glad I popped in here this morning to read that you're back and home and doing better. I think of you and with affection. Marda is right, you are part of the glue that holds this place together...and not just here, I know that.

Keep up that positive attitude, it's always served you well in the past and it will again.
