Holly it probably works for you because you're signed into the site. They should publish a URL that you can actually use to show other people.

I'm curious about that ugly little phal intergeneric that won a ribbon - any idea what cross it was? Doesn't look like your typical phal x doritinopsis or a phal x ascocentrum, so I'm wondering what other genus it could be!!

Blowing up the original, it says it's Phal Samera (?), parents bellina x violacea, from NT Orchid Nursery in Maylaysia.

I'll bet that is Odom. I saw an amazing Christian-oriented exhibit from them at the Greater Miami show a few years back. Lion lying down with the lamb, and if I remember correctly, a huge mural "Resurrection" backdrop. Quite impressive!

I would like to know from someone who has worked these shows how the out of the country growers get all their big plants there, in perfect condition, for the exhibits? Do the Taiwan folks, for example, send small plants to Fla greenhouses a year ahead for growing on near the site? I know there are USDA restrictions that require many plants to come in bare root. How do they do a show like this?

Last but not least, I just got e-mail from NYBG about their orchid show, so you folks up there will be able to get your own orchid fix.

Yes, there were several people there with the little fold up carts. I don't know what we would have don't without it. I bought about a dozen plants. My friend lives in Fla, so she was able to buy larger, blooming plants. I packed my 2 blooming complex paphs by wrapping the flowers in toilet paper and packing them carefully in a flat box that fit in my carry-on tote. It's a testimony to the vigor and substance of the flowers that they arrived home in great shape.

Thanks for the pix. I was there working for Carter & Holmes for the whole week. Hope you stopped by. It was a wonderful show.

I did stop at Carter and Holmes more than once, and bought an Slc. June Bug. Would have loved to have more. It is one of my favorite vendors for small catts. C&H has great plants. My friend bought some as well. Just think of all the great orchid hybrids with the name Mendenhall. It's like all the great Krull-Smith plants named Crystelle Smith. These companies make orchid growing such a pleasure.

I'm trying to remember if C&h had an exhibit, and if so, which one it was. I wonder if I have a pic. Would you recognize their labels or plants?

Do you know the answer to my question about how the in country and out of country growers get all those plants there in such great condition?

Our exhibit was on the far right side as you enter the room. Long aisle of medium sized exhibits. We were in the middle. We had a painted backdrop of a waterfall and a moss valley. On each side were a number of large catts like C. Horace, our newest clone: C. Mark Rose 'Mendenhall' (light lav) several old large white catts, and a grouping of paphs, both standard and mottled leaf.
We got second place for our size exhibit, so we were pretty happy about that. One of our little species got a gold medal. Our retail booth featured my friend's paintings. WOC was an outstanding show. I did have some time to see the Mote's show.

To answer your question about the Taiwan breeders - they bring their own plants over at the time of the show. Somehow they get permission to bring them potted, don't ask me how. Peter Lin of Big Leaf got many of the unsold plants from Mr. Wu to offer for sale instead of making the trip back overseas. He is offering some gorgeous plants but you need an empty credit card to purchase them.
