Controlling Nightcrawlers in the Lawn

I am always promoting the importance of earthworms in the garden and landscape. So when a customer called me the other day wanting to know how to kill nightcrawlers in her lawn I was less than eager to give her any advice. I told her to just be grateful she has them and let them be. I could tell she was not grateful and not willing to let them be.

So, I thought it would be best if I could offer her some sort of solution. Her major complaint is that they are leaving mounds of soil at the surface causing her lawn to be "lumpy". (something I am all too familiar with)

I have already explained why they are beneficial and given her some methods to remove the lumps, but she is looking for a long term fix. My greatest fear is that she is going to find somebody that is going to convince her to use some sort of poison as a soil drench. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
