The County Fair Fish

tibs

I have a small pre-formed pond that I was planning on shutting down for the winter. That was before the boys (my five year old twin nephews) won gold fish at the county fair. The fish, Goldie and Honey Pie came to Auntie's house to live. So, I did some reading and goldfish can take the cold, they just need oxygen. Don't let that pond freeze over. So the pump and little fountain have been running all winter. Worked fine until this weekend when it has got down to zero (Gandle, please take this weather back). Now two or three times a day I get a tea kettle of boiling water, pour it over the ice build up on the fountain, pound the ice with a rake handle and flip out the chunks of ice. Those fish better be alive come spring or I'll have two broken hearted boys.
