And then it was time to head to the CONCERT featuring THE VILLAGE PEOPLE and KC AND THE SUNSHINE BAND !!!

Since NO FLASH photography was allowed that evening, I wasnt' able to take pictures.

ALL in ALL a WONDERFUL TIME there at the 2008 LA COUNTY FAIR !!!

MMM funnel cakes. My favorite pig out food. I'm going to have to make the trip up there one of these years. It looks like more fun than the San Diego Fair.

You know, I'm wondering the same thing, and I'm only an hour away from Albuquerque but just have not had a chance to do the sleuth work when I've been down there. I did notice figs and pomegranates that were killed back basically to the ground. Around Santa Fe (where lows were in the -15 to -25 range) I saw a few dead "palm" yuccas (Y. faxoniana), some dead agaves, damage on mesquite, mimosa, etc... but that's about it. All apricot and peach flower buds were killed, and late spring frosts zapped most of the apple, pear, cherry, plum blossoms. I too would love to get some reports from places like Albuquerque, Truth or Consequences (which had some beautiful Washingtonias), Alamogordo, and El Paso. By the way, Tucson is really a nice city, with beautiful landscaping and a gorgeous natural setting.

Hi Everyone First I truly apologize for dropping the ball. I should have been a better host or reached out to see if there was someone else who could host while I couldn't. As things kept happening in my life, I kept thinking, it's just this one thing or once we get over this crisis, I'll have time to get back to everything again. And it just hasn't stopped. Not as an excuse but only for explanation, the last few weeks have been a turmoil with my grandmother in & out of a coma, my parents possibly getting a divorce, and my own job up in the air. It's still not over, but things have calmed down enough to come back to this. In the last couple weeks, I did try to contact Peggy (pdsavage) a few times with no response. I also know that Sherri tried to contact her to confirm receipt of the box, again with no response. At this point, I'm assuming that the box & Peggy are long gone, which is sad & disappointing since this was supposed to be a friendly swap. For my part, I'm sure that many of you are also disappointed with me & my lack of attention to this RR. Please believe me that it was not because I didn't care & I really feel so sorry that it's ended up this way. Anyway, for now, I think I cannot continue to host this. I know a lot of you lost many valuable seeds & cuttings as well as time & money & trust. Again I'm so sorry for that, & will contact you individually about it. I live in Austin, not in San Antonio, and I garden on caliche/limestone. While I've never gardened on sand, I have a friend and a co-worker who have. One in Bellville and one in Dale, Texas whose husband is actually a farmer. Given the choice, I'd pick the sand. Where I live, I have about 3-5 inches of soil over caliche. In some places it's hard rock. The amount of topsoil you have various with location. Planting anything in caliche is a pain. It takes a breaker bar and an hour or so to dig a fair sized hole. As Linda mentioned, she grows many things in raised beds and I have begun to do so too after learning the hard way. I also have fruit trees--a fig and a native persimmon--planted in the caliche 8 years ago, and they have only grown about two feet in that time. They are both only about five-six feet tall. They should be taller. The fig and the persimmon produce, but they are stunted. I also have an American Beauty Berry planted in 2000 that has not grown at all in all of that time. It has three branches and is 2 feet tall but should be 6 feet tall. My friends who grow on sand seem to have healthy plants. They do have to add a lot of soil ammendments and water because everything seems to go through the soil, but at least their plants are able to put down deep roots. On the positive side of caliche, my house foundation, fence posts, and clothesline posts have never moved. It's the only positive thing I can say about the stuff.

hey laydies I tie on my own lures and bait my own hooks. take fish off too- but not as interested anymore. I would like to learn to fly fish though- not so much for the fish but to learn the technique. Now I fish a bit and read a lot when we go fishing- although we havent gone at all this summer. Oh and my beautiful DD also loves to fish and takes care of her own tackle and bait! she doesnt read - she fishes. I want to take off to part unknown for about 2 weeks- I have 6 weeks of vacation I wont get to use.sigh. I would like to pile the dogs in the car and hit the road.

fantastic fantastic, going next week with my daughter. last year had great So. Carolina pork pulled sandwiches to die for, gonna find that. deep fried oreos..not sure. ha Will go out on amtrack, will look though for plumeria..thanks.

Thanks Rodney for the trip to the fair !!! You made a day of it !! looking at one of the parking lots & general attendance (people walking) from the ferris wheel or gondola ride...its HUGE !! Can you tell I live in a small town ?? ha !! Margarita's and the food choices looked yummy !! Thank you again for the pictures. You saved me $17 admission and parking fees !!!

AWWW, you make me homesick. Great news though! heading to Cali end of this week! maybe the hub will want to go cuz the one here in TX sucks! ha ha ha. mmmmmmm funelcake...
