Whew!!!!

DD andGD left early this AM for Colorado. Carrying boxes of stuff and hangers with bags over them plus other unidentifiable, at least by me, things. Seems like the high point came last evening after dinner when Leone announced that the bridesmaid's dress was done. There were little pillows and what GD called a couple of halos plus, why am I trying to describe it when I don't even know what much of it was. Oh yes, and a whole bunch of sashes, different colors.

The thing they seemed most concerned about wwas the dress that Leone spent so much time on. My role, keep them fed.

I don't know how you can make a special dress for somone 250 miles away without having them try it on but then I don't have to know how.

Wedding isn't until May so I suppose everything should be ready. GD says her little nephew CJ will be a ring bearer, that should be interesting. At another GDs wedding last year in Lincoln NE the little flower girl was told to throw the rose petals took about 3 steps and gave the basket with the petals in it a mighty heave, she threw them alright.

Maybe Leone will post later and give a better explanation than I.

aw a wedding, how nice..May will be a nice time for a wedding..the dress might be able to be altered if it doesn't fit right..probably just making it to SIZE first.

Hon, I seriously doubt Leone could describe it better, as I really like the "heave" vision I got in my head!!! How wonderful she can and does still do for people. And that you appreciate it. Oh, I can just envision little CJ, the miracle baby. What a blessing.

I just cleared my "History" which I should do more often, I suppose and lost RP as was usual on Gardenweb and I could get back easily. This time I was connected to a page that asked me to put my username and email address for verification. Then when I did, told me I didn't exist! Rather than go to Houzz Customer Service for help, I went onto an RP thread and hit "Write a comment" which then needed my email address and password and Hey Presto, I am back! Just in case anyone else gets this problem.....

Today is Memorial Day and time for Step 3, Starter Fertilizer (18-24-12). Lawn is responding well to soil adjustments. It's looking gorgeous and receiving lots of compliments. I've applied a Milo application between Step 2 & Step 3. The Milo iron certainly keeps the dark green going. KBG is producing tons of rhizomes and filling in thin spots. Weeds such as clover and chickweed are being thinned out by 3" turf and several applications of weed control. Dimension took care of the foxtail grass. No evidence of any young sprouts.

As long as Leone had good measurements, she could make a dress that will fit pretty well with some alterations. And how nice that she could do it.

As for little kids in weddings, you never know what they're going to do.

My 7-year-olf nephew was ringbearer for his big sister's wedding..and after being told "don't lock your knees, don't lock your knees.." he did, during the ceremony, and almost passed out. He was so embarrassed..sat on his mom's lap for the last part. he's a little red-headed cutie, and such a man for most of it.

Andie's right..if the measurements are correct,and there enough specific ones, the dress will fit when made by a skilled seamstress such as Leone. There will be minor adjustments, to be sure; but they will be minor and easily done. No worries!

How special that she was able to contribute in this way..and special kudos to you for keeping them fed! Not many men would have risen to that challenge. You are special, George.

Of all the people I know, I'm trying to picture any other man in this situation. Nope, they each would be embarrassed or irritated or so shy of having their home invaded by women wielding needles that they would secrete themselves elsewhere [probably with earbuds and hugging a big TV). And to cook for the semptresses? Well, yes, I do know a few macho male cooks who would fix a meal or two, but mostly the men I know consider picking up the phone to call for pizza delivery the ultimate test of their culinary skills.

Let's doff our hats to a real man! One who not only welcomes women bearing fabric, sewing machines, and silk pins, but one who actually understands that women too need more than a sandwich to fuel the work efforts, and sets himself to provide. Yea for George! -- would that others follow his footsteps.

Recently we went to stay with my SIL, so that she and I could sew "stuff" for her soon-to-arrive-grandchild's nursery. A skirt for the crib (made in two lengths, for when Mom lowers the mattress height later), bumpers, a ruffle for the top posts, curtains and stuff for the window - you name it, we stitched away.

We had fun - MIL cooked, and BIL and Himself kept us entertained and supplied - not with food, but with cocktails!

It's amazing those seams were straight.

I love being able to sew for a family event, and the parents-to-be were thrilled.
