who eat tofu regurly. We just had iridofu for dinner this evening and we like it. Oh, by the way, iridofu means chicken with tofu. At least that is what my friend Hideo tells me.

I try to get it into my diet as often as I can -- which turns out to be about once or twice a week.

My challenge is that I don't know how to cook it to get around the bland flavor. Any suggestions?

i love eating vegetables. escpecially when it is crisp and fresh, tofu is the best too :)

Isn't it creepy when you encounter such a disturbed person? Ewww! But your story reminded me of Kathy Bates' character in Fried Green Tomatoes beating the crap out of the young girls' little car with her big ol' boat. Glad nothing like that happened, tho, since it wasn't a movie! I'm also kind of glad the timing wasn't such that I would encounter the driver of this parked car: As you can see, it's parked, nobody in it. It's barely partway into the spot where the cart corral lives, most of the car is in the aisle. There were maybe 25 cars in the whole big lot at the time, plenty of choices. That's my cart on the side, I couldn't get it into the corral with the car parked like that. Probably good they hadn't tried backing in to this spot! I don't think gender has anything to do with the ability to drive a car, but statistics show that males cause the most accidents and a higher average repair cost per accident.

I like the Software running the forum, I find it Fantastic. I do. -- Someone in their estimation decided Not to give to forum users many of the options that are given to them in other forum Software. E.g. to quote each other in subsequent posts by clicking on "quote", to post twice with no barriers to doing so, to use spaces to express meaning (all extra spaces get deleted, and extra carriage returns too, so you cannot easily add extra interline spacing), to post without reading & reviewing one's own post first, to know how many "times read", how many people have clicked on a thread. Between now and the 22nd Century, human society might begin to choose what is ultimately useless information, like how many people have clicked on the thread since it was first created. Let's understand that we don't need to know that level of detail. What we really want to know is whether the thread is worth reading and that depends on concepts and quality of contributors' input: these two things can be tracked on the side -- and eventually included as a tool in a far future version of this forum. I'm assuming you are prepared to look into the future. There are some irritants but they are of little importance. E.g. CAPS in subject line get bounced to lower-case. It is easy to program into the software a few text management constraints that then surprise You and some others, but that ultimately are a Good Thing to work around and to accept as a good thing instead of thinking that you ought to have more and more options like text formatting. I personally vote in favor of programming that brings us all back to basic text, so all use of Upper Case IN ENTIRE WORDS be converted into lower case so that upper case only be available for word-initial use. Don't love the search function here... the way it's date-oblivious and doesn't allow you to select a date-RANGE. Hits for a particular keyword brings up a thread from 5 YEARS ago, followed by one from 5 DAYS ago, followed by one from 5 MONTHS ago, etc... But workarounds are easy, and in the future an access tool would get around it easily. Let's discuss bigger things: what would be useful to help you track the things you want to track and to find the information you want and to call upon the right community (people) when you need them and to be relatively sure that your requests are well received -- this would be a tool for which I would pay to have special access.

I kind of think it's little silly to keep the hostess gifts going round and round. When I entertain, I prefer to take care of everything from soup to nuts, and that's how I like to be a guest, too. Taking or receiving a "little token something" like a book or dish towel, flowers or wine, seems completely unnecessary to me. It's too much like trying to be imaginative or thoughtful, as if the gesture relieves one of writing a thank you note. I believe my hosts mean don't bring anything when I ask them what I can bring. I don't know what the etiquette books say about writing notes nowadays, though. I always send a note to my hosts immediately, thanking them for a lovely time. As a guest, I never take anything unless I'm asked to, which I do happily. The only events I'm ever asked to take something to are BBQs and summertime parties, and then the hosts are specific in ther requests. Evenings with friends, or the less frequent, fancier dinners, nada. I love having people in for dinner, and we're having two couples here tomorrow night. I'm sure they won't bring us any gifts, and we'll have a wonderful time. Sherry

I’m not sure I ought to share this but others may find it a helpful coping strategy when faced with a lengthy social interaction that’s draining your will to live. I find digging my nails into the palms of my hands can divert a mounting need to say ‘shhhhhhhhhhh’. I mastered this technique not long after meeting FIL. Unfortunately it worked too well and I became his favourite go to buddy at all family gatherings. It was quite the family joke. Other than that all my friends and family are well aware of my aversion to phone calls and usually stick to emails or messaging. I honestly don’t have any negative friends. Family? Well, you can’t chose them and certain individuals I treat as a challenge in how many different ways I can sympathise or cheer them up before a yawning fit sets in. This is a very real phenomenon and I have been known to leave ‘do’s’ because of it. Once relieved of the crushing boredom, the yawns stop and full health is happily restored. Saying all of that, one can never be sure you don’t have a similar effect on others yourself, so I’m not proud, just passing on my technique for dealing with occasional mismatches in personality types, or as was the case before I took voluntary redundancy, staying awake at lengthy work lectures.

Our DS went vegetarian a few years ago, so we went looking for resturants and recipes that we could share.
We found a hole in the wall resturant in a strip mall that has the most wonderful veggi/tofu dishes. Want pork, chicken, beef dishes, you can get it here, but it is all made with tofu.
We luv it.

WG, there is a Carraba's Restaurant in Frederick, MD (about 20 miles from us). We've been there only once, but thought the food was delicious. Guess I didn't peruse the menu carefully enough, b/c I didn't know they had vegetarian fare, unless perhaps, they don't, and it's a specialty of the restaurant near you.

I confess I've never eaten tofu; my taste buds need to be expanded, I think! :>)

Probably not low-cal but I love a happens-to-be-vegetarian dish at a restaurant we sometimes visit. I think it's called sesame tofu. It's chunks of fried tofu in a fairly spicy sweet/sour sauce and sesame seeds all over it. Extremely delicious, filling, and usually paired with steamed broccoli (which always bumps into that yummy sauce just before I take a bite.) Wouldn't be hard to make at home, where I would blot the fried chunks on paper towels, or try sautee'ing without the batter/breading. As long as there's a little crunch on the edges, I don't think anything would be lost. If anybody else would eat it with me, I'd try making it this way (if I could find tofu to buy, don't think I've seen any around here.) It's not something I've had often but have never NOT enjoyed it. It doesn't have to be a main dish and I'm sure I would find lots of uses for it.

I've had to cut back on eating dark green veggies-- broccoli, brussel sprouts, kale, spinach, even dark leaf lettuces, b/c I am taking Warfarin, and those vegetables curtail its effectiveness. I didn't realize how much of them I ate, till I'm not supposed to do so. Even cranberries are now a "no-no"! Which is a bummer, b/c I make a great cranberry sauce. :(

Tofu is usually my go-to if my husband does not feel like eating a meal and I don't want to cook meat just for myself, which is about once a week.
