I just wrote this on the cooking forum (you sound along the same lines as I am feeling):

My little fella and I are going to adopt a kitten tomorrow, one to hang out with my pretty rescue kitty from a couple of months ago. Maggie has finally settled down and feels comfortable, but now seems sad since she no longer has companions all day long. She is so glad when we come home or get up in the morning. A little too glad, if you know what I mean.

Loads of school work, 99 days until I graduate (I've only been working on my undergraduate since 1986). I have to reread The Prince and finish reading Leviathan. I also have to read Chapter 1 in my 'terrorism' class, and finish my first assignment for Political Parties. The first class is kicking my rear, but I knew it would. So I am on target."

I need to look for a second job. I am wasting so much time. I feel like my head is almost on straight again. I suppose that is not really a waste of time....getting one's head on straight.

Michael- are you going to share the short story with names changed?

Cold and windy here and I have been doing grunge stuff
all day.
Changing sheets, dusting, vacuuming, all those things one would love to put off forever.
With Katrina's help, I put all the meds in see through containers and slapped labels on them.
Now they are easy to reach, for an adult, and are organized.

I've ordered some gas fire logs for the fireplace in the
living room. I hope they work out okay. I got one with a
remote control because I don't like having to get down on
my hands and knees to light a fire.

Also ordered some cabinet knobs for the bathroom.
Lord only knows if they will match anything else in there.
If not, then I'll start over.

It is supposed to snow on Monday but I doubt if it will
amount to anything. I've been to the store and I have bread and milk. Let it snow.!!

Michael, I'm sorry about your dog, let us know if you get another one.
Sorry about the furnace going out, it's a bummer to have to spend so much money for a replacement. I'm keeping my
fingers crossed with ours. We have three of the darned
things. One is bound to bite the dust sooner or later.

Getting ready to call it a day. My electric blanket and
my book awaits me.

That particular story may have to wait. May try to go pro with it first.

Ok I am not sure what to do. I'd hoped the lady Maggie would be glad to have a baby since all of hers were taken away, but so far, she's only territorial and hisses at the gentleman Murphy. Murph is an 8 week onld whose mom was taken away (read the pound ended her life) is an easy going guy who loves everyone and thing, but is confused why he get hissed at by Maggie Moo. A door between them, but a world apart. Will it end in hatred and Murph going back to the adoption world? How long will it take! I've never done two new homes matching up into a third new home.

It'll be most likely working out, Murph has to learn whatever manners Maggie requires and she will have to learn there is another one in the family. I don't worry much about hissing, if he's an easygoing sort, he will find his place.
I have a four cat household, two are litter-mates and the older two are 7 and 4 years old, they all find their way to live together, and I have a very small house.
Joann has an even smaller house and she has seven cats of various ages and dispositions, and they do ok.
Unless there is real screaming and attacking, they will work it out.

Oh, I get hissed at every time I trim my kitty's nails and I don't take it personally. They'll sort it out.

Dorph, sorry about the loss in your companion pack. No need to cruise pounds. Dogs have a way of finding us.

Jan, a remote control fire is nice. Steve once had his fireplace hooked into a thermostat and I liked it even better. It was always a couple degrees cooler in his basement, which always tripped his furnace, but by installing a very efficient direct vent fireplace, when just the basement got chilly, the fireplace would pop on, warm it up, and his heating bills (in MN) went way down.

Krista, I wouldn't call what you're doing wasting time.

I'm recovering from a girls' night away followed by a day at the spa. The outdoor, infinity edge pool was heated beautifully and even though temps were in the 30's it was comfortable to go outside to swim in the pool, soak in the hot tub, and then lounge by fire pits. Beyond the pool, the view was snow-covered pine trees. Surreal sort of, but very enjoyable.

I was more worried about Murphy; he's so tiny. And she's so huge. She must eat bricks for breakfast. Ok. They're just hissing, not attacking, so it's on target. I actually had a nightmare (I am usually in control during my dreams) where my kitten (it looked nothing like Murph!) got attacked and I was trying and trying to get him to help, but he died anyway. It felt so real. They're much calmer now. He'll get a step within her comfort zone and she'll growl instead of hiss now. Then he backs away. And then it ends. They're finding their rhythm pretty quickly. It's kinda funny to watch, like he's stepping on some button which turns it on, and then it stops, turns it on, stops....

I am glad the cats are working it out, generally it is best that way, but I know sometimes it's hard not to interfere.
My youngest ones are almost two now, and Jasmyn, the troublemaker, still finds ways to push Sooty's, the Senior cat's buttons and there will be growling, but they both back off before it gets serious.
