I kind of agree. I go there first rather than ebay now when I want to get rid of stuff. Funny, though, the free stuff got picked up no problemo. The gal that wanted to buy a router never showed up even though we exchanged emails three times and she even called for directions. I will no longer rearrange my schedule to be there for someone to buy something.

The best thing was the woman who picked up all my used fluorescent tubes--I change the ones I use to grow orchids annually but they still work. She needed them for a school or something like that. Saved me carting them back to the store for recycling.

I sold my last batch of ochids online, I wonder if I'll even use Craigslist for the next batch of culls.

I had some time yesterday when I posted the stuff, so I decided to stay glued to the 'puter and respond to emails immediately. I think that's the key - get the commitment from the first few interested folk and try to set something up for the same day or early the next day. The people who say "Can I come over next week?" aren't serious.

Yeah, one has to really keep the flake filter active when dealing with people like that. Our neighborhood list-serve looks like a good venue, too. For example, we have excess doors since our remodel and since many of the houses around here have similar doors of the same vintage I'll bet if I ever got around to listing them they'd find a new home. The problem is I think they don't allow advertising for money. I'd like to get money. I love money so much!!! ;p

Oh, no, I'll most likely never be orchid free, but I've been paring it down to the ones that grow well and that I actually really like.

Flake filter - OH YES!

I sold some compost bins I was no longer using. I still compost, but had too many of these. Anyway, I posted pics of them so folks knew what they were like. Basically, they were just square boxes with covers. One woman asked if the bin turned the compost or if she would have to turn it? She's the one person who never showed up. Imagine that!

Craigslist is awesome! I spend WAAY to much time on there....started off innocently with my apartment search around May...since then, I essentially visit (in no particular order) "FREE", "Apartment/housing for rent", "Best of Craigslist" and occasionally "Missed connections" because it's just so funny some of the things people write!! Also, the kind of stuff people give away for free on there is ridiculous...upright pianos?!! If only I had some sort of truck, I'd drive around the city picking up all this free stuff!!

1 vacuum cleaner
1 Nintendo wii game (super smash bros brawl)
1 90 gallon aquarium for my orchidarium
1 cool mist humidifier for my orchidarium

I have yet to experience selling stuff, but my mom wants to get rid of some kitchen appliances and other junk...my only concern is, don't you get sketchy people showing up to your house?...:-S

Since I am a very ecologically minded person, I simply adore that this whole culture of reusers is out there and apparantly thriving. Just makes so much sense.

The folks that showed up at my house were just super nice, but than again I only made appointments with 4 and one was a no show. The other three came when they said they would and took the stuff. I think the key is how you do your ad and you MUST attach good photos. If there are flaws or any kind of damage to the stuff you want to get rid of show it and explain in detail. That should eliminate a whole bunch of people coming over to look and not buying. I think it also makes you look like an honest person upfront.

I'm going to list and AC that runs fine, but is missing the accordion side panels. I'm going to explain why they're gone and point that out in the photo I post. I don't want people coming over expecting one thing and finding something they didn't expect. It's just too time consuming setting up a whole bunch of appointments and waiting around.

I just remembered another encounter. I was selling three nice aluminum mini blinds for $20. These things cost over $100 each new and they were in excellent condition. The only person who called hadn't measured her windows to see if they'd fit but she did ask if installation was included in the price.

I'm assuming at that point some reference to a female dog was uttered?

Those words might land you in a whole heap o' trouble boy! At least, in certain parts. Be careful!!

Oh that stuff. Yes, we've had a few cases like that around here too. I think most of them centered around people hooking up via CL and when the guys went to meet their "new friend" they would be beaten to a pulp and robbed. To my knowledge, all the incidents involved the guys going to someones private home and then being robbed and beaten in the house. Kind of stupid on the part of those doing the robbing and beating since the victims simply took the police back to the house.

I'm still really pleased with my CL experiences. I've been unloading a lot of stuff I no longer use and getting some nice cash in the process. So far, no scary people either.

"Professional escorts" is the nice term for ladies of the night that charge.
