N-P-K Question

OK. So, I often times see in these threads people saying things like (this is just an example, and I use 0 for P and K just to keep things simple) "use a fertilizer with a higher N, like 43-0-0, instead of the 22-0-0 you were going to use." To me, that doesn't make any sense. Most synthetic fertilizers' spread rate settings on the back of the bag are set up to give you right around 1.0 lbs. N per 1,000 sq. ft. (some are a tad more, some are a tad less, but that's easily calculable). So, unless you are deviating from the spread rate given on the back of the bag, then a bag of 43-0-0 isn't going to give you any more N per 1,000 sq. ft. than a bag of 22-0-0. The only difference is that the 43-0-0 is going to weigh a lot less, because it's N percentage is higher.

Hopefully that all made sense, and yeah, it was probably more of a rant than anything else. Please correct me if I'm the one who's looking at things incorrectly.
