My vinegar spray has killed the crabgrass - now what?

I am trying to avoid chemicals - I have hand-pulled many single crabgrass plants, but where there are larger patches of many crabgrass densely packed - two or three square feet in size - I have sprrayed those patches with a 5% vinegar/soap mixtrure. The crabgrass patches have gone yellow - but while the leaves are obviously dead I wonder whether the plant is dead or whether the roots will shoot again this year. My understanding is that crabgrass is an annual so even if the roots arent dead the crabgrass won't re-apprear NEXT year. None of the grass has gone to seed so I shouldn't have a seed sprouting problem next year.

I propose to rake the dead grass up and then top-dress and sow some seeds in September.

Is this an OK strategy?
