Round up killed it how do I remove it?

About 5 weeks ago I used roundup to kill off the plantain, clover and some grassy wed I don't know the name of that completely took over large patches (like 10 feet by 5 feet multiple patches) of lawn. (The lawn is KBG where it is sunny and Bonny Dune in the shade). Almost immediately the weeds looked dead i.e. dried up brown or similar to hay but still took up the space. When I go to reseed those areas how do I get rid of the dead stuff to make room for the new seed? I was kind of naively thinking the idea of using a chemical was that you didn't have to physically remove the dead stuff but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. Any chance I can get away with putting some leaf mold over it then seeding then putting more leaf mold on the seeds to keep them in place? Thanks
