proper way to 'store' apples?

This year we finally got our 1st decent crop of Goldrush, and we've been storing several bags of them in our 2nd refrigerator in the basement, since we picked them in late October. In the last few days I've started to notice the skin is drying out a little and becoming slightly "soft" to the touch. The apples still taste great and overall still provide a good, crisp bite, but since them seem to be drying out a bit at this point, I don't see much hope of them lasting well into the Spring, as I know Goldrush are capable of doing. Seems I've read somewhere in the past that modern, "frost-free" refrigerators take out a lost of the needed moisture that allows some apples to keep well. Is there anything I can do to my refrigerator (change settings) or to how I am storing the apples (they currently are just sitting in big plastic grocery bags) to help them stay moist and last longer?

Thanks.
