Low Chill Blueberries and Fruit Trees

Hi,

I've searched for the answer to this question and come up empty handed.

Our chill hours here are supposed to be in the 1000-1100 range. This info was from 1979. However, checking the weather back the last 10 years, we've not had anywhere near that many chill hours. Also, in figuring chill hours, there are so many different ways they are figured, I'm not sure what I have anyway.

So, my questions is this: If I buy low chill varieties, say, 500 hours or less, and then get more chill hours than that, is this okay? Obviously, less chill hours than needed is not okay. But will they still fruit if I get more than needed? I did read that if I get way more than needed, I might have a problem with the plants starting to bloom too early, and then having a freeze which would kill the blooms and the year's crop. Or if the first blooms are killed will the plant/tree rebloom again a little later?

Any ideas or experiences on this question would be very much appreciated?

Thanks,

Karen
