What can I do to save what is left of my yard?

I'm having some serious issues with my 2 1/2 year old St. Augustine grass lawn. It seems to be what I can only describe as 'rotting'.

I didn't water throughout the winter, nor did I winterize after I stopped using Tru-Green last winter.

I threw down several bags of Triazicide because I initially thought this was bugs. However, upon digging up around the dead grass and examining the dirt, I see no sign of chinch bugs or grubs.

Is it safe to assume that the large spotty areas will need to be resodded? Is there any hope of bringing back the smaller spotty areas?

What's wrong with my grass and how do I treat and bring back to life my remaining grass so that I don't have to replace that as well?

Seems like some kind of root rot because I can pull up the grass by hand in the areas around the bad brown spots.

Thanks for any advice.....
