Lawn Boy Help

I have a question I am trying to help a friend with. He has a LB 10201, a "V" series I guess. It has so much compression that it is hardly possible to pull the engine thru from the handle mounted pull. With the spark plug out, it turns free enough. It does apparently have some crankcase compression when turning with the plug out. I know the crankcase must be pressurized to push the next charge thru the transfer ports into the combustion chamber but in working with older LBs I have never experienced noticeable crankcase compression when turning by hand. The flywheel brake is tied down so that is not a factor.

I have turned this engine by hand using the flywheel, compression seems exceptional.

The cylinder is in good shape, no scoring or metal transfer.

I have never worked on a "V" Series LB but they are about the same configuration and specs. as an "F" aren't they?

Appreciate any help,

Walt Conner
