Lawn mower will not start after I empty the bag

I have a craftsman lawnmower. The mower starts right up when its cold. I will then cut the grass for about 15 minutes, then turn it off to empty the grass clippings. When I go back to restart it, it will not start. I have to let it cool off for about 30 min to and hour. A couple of times I kept pulling to start it and got it to start after about 30 times. Anyone have any suggestions please.

What engine / model #s would be helpful. First guess is the ignition coil is on the way out- especially If you have a Tecumseh engine. Some Briggs have different issues that are more common to them.I like to cover my bases knowing the fuel is fresh, carb clean, fuel cap vents well, and has a new spark plug 1st. You could pop the air filter and give a shot of carb spray when it is in not starting mode and see if it wants to fire up when you pull it.

I had a similar problem on my neighbors lawnmower. Thew blade was so dull it made the engine get hot and would not start after the bag was full.
I would suggest to do all the basics first like spark plug air filter oil etc.
Then see if you still have the same problem.
One of the most neglected things I have seen is the fins were blocked.

hilmav, Bless you. WE have a relatively new lawnmower and were having a hell of a time keeping it going. We had it serviced several months ago and it worked okay for a couple of months...Today it started and stopped... I was frustrated as I had no idea how to clean the carburetor etc as most people recommended (I also didn't have the tools to do it.) I tried the prime while motor running and eventually it began to stay going and running smoothly. I have a postage sized lawn and is newly mown and a solution to what has been an ongoing issue. bill, thanks...it is a small metal housing around the carborator with the nut underneath..i opened yesterday and a little gas poured out...there was a piece of plastic (round disc type of thing) inside...i will reopen and look for the holes and clean...i thought about taking out the fuel line from the tank to the carb and see if it is clogged...one end is easy to pull out, the carb end of the fuse hose is fastened on tighter and tough to get too .....thanks again!

It is possible that you have 2 different issues. It is hard to tell from your description if you are saying that the wind down noise is the noise of the starter running and if it is, is it running w/o the key switch activated. Solenoids are the most likely cause for allowing the starter to run on- but not the only one. They are not typically a fuse blower- but could be. On a 4 post solenoid one of the 2 small wires supplies a ground and the other 12 volts when the key switch is activated. If I am assuming something I shouldn't, please elaborate on what you believe the noise is.

further comment: after the fuse is checked, examine the wires that power the solenoid clutch. These are located right next to the drive belts and sometimes can be tagged by the belt flexing.
