1-cup of spit or yuca extract.
1 stale dark beer.
1-cup of baby shampoo.

Buy you a 12 pack of good drinkable dark beer. Sit down and it drink up.

With very wottle. rinse and fargle at least onec tithe a ottle. and pit it out in a container untill you get a couple of ups.

Mix it sup with baby shampoo, dilute with yater if you need ta get it through the hose end prayer.

Yep you can, or $35 for the same thing called Nitron A 35. Instead of spit they use an extract from Papaya seeds or the Yucca plant. Same enzyme found in saliva.

Yucca is type of a surfactant, or "water-wetter", that boosts water absorption by plants. The baby shampoo is a type of surfactant that promotes the water retention in the soil...and I believe the beer provided oxygenation for the soil when it's watered into the ground as well as a mild source of water soluble nitrogen.

Will this mixture - or Nitron A-35 - do any harm to new grass or seeds that haven't yet germinated?
In other words, are there any situations where you shouldn't use it?

I applied mine right over the seeds when they were sown. Followed by an application of Tupersan (pre-emergent) which is designed to be safe for fescues and bluegrasses - even as seeds.

The only warning I know of - which just came up as a recent post, in fact - is that if you apply it over time-released (which is not the same as "slow-release") formulas it could cause the premature release of the time-released capsules making it all a "fast-release" formula.

However, typically - and completely based off your soil sample results - you don't put much, if any fertilizer down during seeding unless it's s very slow-released formulation.

I used a 34-0-0 fast-releasing urea but I only put down a half pound of nitrogen. 34-0-0 = 3.4 lbs per 1000 sq. ft. to equal one pound of nitrogen so I only applied 1.75 lbs per 1000 sq. ft.

Now that the lawn is approximately six weeks old I'll put down another half pound of nitrogen and save the next feeding until the end of summer/fall.

Arjo--your math's off a bit. 1.75 lbs of 34-0-0 gives you about .6 lbs of N. to get .5 lbs, you'd want about 1.5 lbs.

I donÂt know how long it would last or if it does much of anything to be honest. This all came about a few years ago when my Son was in college they burned a sample of Nitron A 35 in a gas chromatograph to see what was in it. Turns out to be water, beer, soap (mild like baby shampoo or bath), and a common enzyme found in human saliva, papaya seed, and the yucca plant (meat tenderizer ADOLFÂs)

No I wouldnÂt use it in sandy soils since the product is made for heavy clay soils. It is suppose to soften them up and make them absorb water better. Same thing any surfactant will do.

No it wonÂt hurt soil microbes as long as you donÂt over do it like anything else. The beer and enzymes will feed microbes. Problem could be the shampoo if you used the wrong kind or too much.

No I donÂt use it, I have rich sandy loam yard. My personal thought is it wonÂt do any harm. On the other hand I do not know or claim it would do any good.

Only thing I do use once in a while is use a potion like Jerry Baker published of using ammonia and a lemon scented soap to hose end spray around the patio plants and surfaces before a party of guest like a BBQ. Seems to run the bugs off, makes things smell fresh, and puts a shine on the potted plants and ivy growing.

I originally posted this a couple of years back because I seen a lot of folks buying the Nitron A 35 product, and knew how to make your own for pennies rather than buying for dollars. If you have ever had the product it smells, looks, and taste like dilutted soapy beer. That is what it is.
