I have been starting to update my Lawn-Boy site. The old forum had disappeared awhile ago and I haven't gotten around to fixing it until now. i an very sorry of the delay. I have fixed it with a much better forum, but I still think this one is better. If this forum ever goes down though, you guys are welcome to come over to my site. I am also reconstructing my website and i would love to have a bunch of very helpful info on it. Can any of you suggest what i should put on there? Any comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The site is at http://mr.phixit.tripod.com/ fell free to mow on over there.

Please let me know what you think I should have on there and what I shouldn't.

I want to gather info for my lawnmower site so can I sort of "grill" all of the Lawn-Boy experts here. I am not trying to be mean or anything, I just am not that good of a Lawn-Boy expert yet. But I hope to learn alot more.

Top o' the line in '94. My neighbor had one that he ruined in '94 by doubling the oil; 16:1 instead of 32:1. The exhaust ports naturally got clogged with carbon, so he took the mower completely apart, lost some small parts and ended up taking it to the dealer in a box. The dealer sold him a 4-cycle mower (appropriate for his IQ) and probably used the 2-cycle for parts, or maybe put it back together and sold it. Absolutely wonderful lawn mowers, but a tad under-powered by today's standards. You must adhere to maintenance, particularly cleaning the exhaust ports and muffler. Once you get them clean, use of a synthetic or blend, such as Homelite 'Exact-Mix' at 50:1 can help keep it clean. I ran LB oil at 32:1 for years in a 10201 (also a '94 but with 'V' engine) and had trouble with carbon in the ports. The price seems a little high, but I haven't seen the mower. If it is a pristine example you may have gotten a steal. I'm not sure I would have bought it as my principal mower. This is like an antique car that you take out on Sunday morning and everybody gawks at. On the other hand, $225 is half-price for a new premium self-propelled mower today with the features of the 10520 (mulch, bag, discharge). Tips and info already on this site will help you maintain it; for example, there is a great auto engine paint at Wal Mart that matches the deck perfectly. Always use the original-type blade. It should also have a mulch fan mounted below the blade. You can experiment with that to see if you want to keep using it. I might take mine off (10550) when bagging but I do use it for mulching. The rear-bagging kit has a long curved black chute that carries the clippings to the back. The side-bagging kit has a short green chute. Either chute installs in place of the mulch or discharge plates. The bags and hardware for each type are different. You should have received a 'blank' (discharge) plate and a discharge port-blocking (mulch) plate with it. The plates and bag kits are always on ebay. Yankees!!!!!!!!......Yankees here?......Oh my Gawd I didn't know they was Yankees here!!!!!!........:) Oh, relax, Paul! I can't speak for the others (you'll just have to watch those people! LOL), but all my people are Southern and I was born in the South, and though by circumstances was transplanted North, I was raised on Southern home training and sweet tea (didn't even know there was any other kind until college, when I started dating a real Yankee). Jim, about the Austins' prevalence: As Jeri and others have so astutely pointed out, that's just marketing. People seem to be obsessed with the Brits and their lifestyles, their names (look at the baby name trends, especially for girls), their TV shows, their movie stars, their accents... somehow, people seem to think, all things British are somehow better and of a higher, more refined and educated stature. So of course they eat up the Austin propaganda. Maybe the Germans need better press. And also, sorry to say, but some folks are just ignorant. Watching QVC the other night (oh the shame!), I saw this female host on a gardening show with this guy peddling an Austin collection. "Oh, I've never SEEN blooms like this; this is a truly EXTRAORDINARY rose." And she meant every single word. Now, we who are acquainted with the antique world know this is nothing rare or super-special, but for those who have only ever seen a hybrid tea... That's why it's up to us to educate. So maybe disdain isn't the answer, just education...

So let me ask ... What is wrong with the lawn chief - is it something(s) that is simply going to be cost prohibitive to fix ? Compared to laying down $2,$3,$4k down on a new tractor with a blade (or snow blower attachment). After all - you already have the blade (or snow blower attachment). Thats not going to be cheap to replace with a new ride. You may also wish to factor in, with regards to buying used there is a 50/50% chance that your going to be repairing someone else's problem(s) on an already expensive purchase. Even if its the motor that's non-repairable - with a little hunting you could still easily replace the motor somewhere around $300-$700 ... Plus fix a few other things that might be broken or near worn out ? If yours is fixable at good price (compared to the $4k new option) then why not fix it? Some (a lot) of the box store units are not going to survive your routine (at least like your lawn chief did). Fix the lawn chief ? Whats wrong with it ? either way - good luck to you.

My suggestion for you is not to Open the book at all, not even the packing it comes in. Write in big bold letters, RETURN TO SENDER! I'd also call or write and ask them to stop sending you the books..I found out the hard way about weight watcher books that come from Oxmoor House and are twice the price they are in the book stores. I only buy online from Amazon.com..They beat everybody's prices that I have discovered so far. Delivery is fast too.

I have on old Lawn Boy roto-tiller mod #LTV-1. It must be 40 years old but will stil run with a little effort. Would this be of any value?

Good deal. That should be interesting reading even for those of us who don't collect mowers. I don't collect 'em but I still get a kick out of seeing an obviously old lawn mower still in use. The engine speeds and sounds can be quite different from modern equipment and very noticable. Sort of like hearing a DC-3 off in the distance.

I have three old lawn boy power mowers. I know one dates to the early to mid 1950s (no plastic on it), one is around 1970, and the third is probably from the '70s. I was going to junk them, but......being a collector of old outboard motors, and not liking to see them get scrapped, I got to thinking that, maybe, someone out there collects lawn mowers and would like these. I know the oldest 2 of them run, and the third a neighbor dropped off on me and I never tried to start it - it is not seized up. All need some restoration and TLC, or use for parts.
I'm in Minnesota about 30 miles north of the Minneapolis area about 12 miles north of ELk River. If anyone wants them - come and get them!

Does anyone out there in e-land have any parts for a model 1116 rototiller? Specifically I need a coil and a starter return spring. Or does anyone know where and how the spark plug wire connects to the coil so I could repair the old coil. The wire was pulled loose and no indication of where or how it was connected.
