Heavy Rains after applying Weed & Feed

Hi there, I have a concern and was wondering if any of the pros around here could help me. I've been a lurker here forever but rarely post, but I need some serious advice. Yesterday evening at about 6pm or so I put down some Scotts Fertilizer with Weed Control (the yellow bag) and totally forgot to check the forecast until after I applied it to my lawn dampened with sprinklers. Well...sure things today we got some very heavy rainfall and wondering if it washed all my weed & feed away or if I should just reapply after the rain has passed.

I know many of you here aren't fans of weed&feed products or Scotts either for that matter... but I'm on a budget and cannot drive all over town looking for specific products, lots of what I read here might as well be Chinese to me...LOL... so I ask that you please be nice and keep the sarcasm to a minimum. Don't me mean.

Hey KG, can't offer any advice as I'm a newb as well. There will be some nice people to give you a sarcastic free answer I'm sure.

Just thought I would see exactly where you live. I'm off Eldorado and Teel in Frisco.

He just said weed and feed. I text him after our conversation to ask him to warn me before spraying but he must not have seen the text as when I was pulling up from picking up my daughter his wife was already spraying the front of the neighbors yard. She was using a hose and a container of something. I was mainly concerned about an area over the fence of my veggie garden that is a side yard for the other unit. I asked him in my text not to spray that area but I'm not sure if they did or not as he never replied. Ugh. I will be looking for signs of herbicide damage. .. Good thing I have back ups. Along that fence I have tomatillos and tomatoes planted, but I only planted half of my starts. Would herbicide affect garlic as well?

Hey Maow! Look what you found, eh? Lol First off, I just have to say again that I think your NOID is beautiful! I really hope mine will turn into that!!! I just took an update pic of Knockout and the NOID as it looks now...still small leaves but I attribute it to overwintering a division in a pot in this climate. I'm undecided where to plant it but I better come up with an answer soon. It will grow much better in the ground. Earlier I posted a thread where I thought I might have id'd the NOID as being Knockout. Ken thought it was close enough that it may be a Knockout. I hope it flowers so we can narrow it down some more. For now I have pics filed under both NOID and Knockout albums. See what you think, Maow. We could always revisit it in the fall if we can't get any closer I.D. now?

Glyphosate will burn the weeds down any time you apply, but there are certain stages in the growth of a perennial weed where it can have a major effect and other times when the weed will just regrow. Generally, a good time to go after perennial weeds is in the fall when they are pumping carbohydrates down into their root systems for winter survival. Spraying then will result in pumping the glyphosate into the roots as well, getting a much better control than at other times of the year. What this means is to spray in the fall when the weeds aren't putting out substantial top growth (because they are building root reserves for winter) and at least several days before the first killing frost (typically 28 degrees). Kudzu is quite a vining weed (which I have seen but never tried to work with), so it may be difficult to fully treat the entire plant due to all the vines. This will lessen control. To compensate, either use a higher concentration mix of glyphosate when spraying, or do something such as dip as many vines as possible into a small container of full strength glyphosate (40% or more active ingredient) and leave them in the solution for 3-5 days so they can take up high quantities of the herbicide.

Are you planning to spray the whole yard with atrazine, or just spot spray? I would spot spray each & every suspected Crabgrass head, but I would not broadcast a spray across the entire yard--That's a bit wasteful & atrazine is tough stuff. It's really not too late on the preM this year, all this rain & cool weather has kept them behind schedule in my yard. The atrazine should be used in combination with a good preM to keep the heads from coming back anyway. I use dimension & it actually kills baby Crabgrass up to a single tiller, so it can be applied later than the others on the market. Late app plus late growth means you're not too late for preM & it will make a world of difference. I also recommend a product called bonide Sedge ender, which targets Crabgrass & nutsedge specifically, including a preM already mixed in. Ace has both these products, but the big box stores usually only carry fast acting stuff to keep you coming back.

Wow Mofo... I'm only 15 minutes away. I'm up off Hwy 380 & 423. Loved all the rain today but worried my W&F went bye bye and I wasted half a bag.

Well can we pick on Mofo as a proxy? You two seem to get along great!

Seriously. Haven't we explained weed-n-feed enough? Well, I think I understand what happened. We have over explained it. I digress into techno lawn speek too easily.

I would not apply anything with fertilizer again this soon. Give it 2 weeks and try again.

Lawn care can be a budgetary balancing act. Is your lawn doing okay, except for the weeds?

How often are you watering?
How high do you mow?
What kind of grass do you have (really this is question #1)?

Yes... I know and have read all about the cons of W&F but I'm not sure what else to do. I live in the burbs with the lawn the size of a postage stamp and all I want it a nice lawn that doesn't break the bank and I don't have to drive all over town looking for specific products that I have no clue how to use... LOL
If there are alternatives I can use that I can find at Home Depot, Lowes or WM.. then I'm all for it. Gas is $4 a gallon and I keep telling myself "It shouldn't be this hard or complicated.
To answer your questions
I haven't even turned on my sprinklers yet as mother nature has taken care of the watering needs so far this season. With TX being TX... I'm sure we'll be in a combo heat/drought wave soon enough and I know not to over water and let the grass tell me when it needs watering.
Right now my mower is set one up from the lowest setting. If I take it down to the lowest setting.. I'll be hitting dirt in some places.
Grass type... I'm assuming it's typical Bermuda... like I said I live in one of the new subdivisons that pop up overnight so I'm sure the builders just put in basic bermuda.

I also wanted to say.. if my posts come off as mean or offensive... that's not my intention. Just getting really frustrated with this lawn thing.
One person says the Scotts 4 step plan... another call it the devil...
