Holiday Cactus Seed Pods Pics

I decided to experiment with my holiday cactus this year and see if I could get lucky enough to get some seed pods/fruit. I was very lucky and so far I have 5.

There is not much information about how long one should wait to remove the seeds. Some say when they change color to red but, as you can see, the seed pod on my red CC is already red and it just formed. I will have to experiment with the pods as well.

Pictures are red x. They are hosted on webshots...this happens with them sometimes.

You can open a free account on photobucket.com to host there and copy the html code and just paste in text message here.

I have fresh blackberry lily seeds (the yellow blooms with red spots lily) and the plants I have grown from seeds have done really well in my Louisiana heat and humidity. Please take a look at my tradelist and see if there is anything else you might want. Hope we can trade. Would love some of your Easter Cactus seeds, especially the pink ones. If you want to trade plant leaves instead of seeds I do have a pink Christmas cactus here that I could send you some leaves of if you would like to send me leaves of one of your Easter cactus. Hi Thanks for the compliments on even the 'ucky' ones lol. Most of the pods are planned pods the names are on the stems on one side or the other lol, some just aren't showing in the pix. I have found out that the black sharpie does fade. So I lightly scratched it in on some and it is still visible. There's about 4 pods that are unknown. I have way more than shown but I was trying to show the general diff shapes. Tiara has pods too that look similar to Creamsickle's and Rubirosa is just starting hers. karyn, yes that's pretty much how they all look here right now. We got into the upper 20's twice here already and lower 30's several times. Most larger brugs are still in the ground. DH built frames around the beds with 2x4s and we just hung blankets and plastic over them etc. I shove the pots of smaller plants underneath the larger ones so I don't have to haul them into the garage. The brugs and the pods all made it so far. The tops of Adeline and NN got burnt badly though. I don't know whats wrong with photobucket that the thumbnails won't open..that's aggravating. Theresa I hope you are feeling better soon too. I'm still waiting for the white, yellow, lav and pink xmas cactus to open.. Post a pic of your orange one when it blooms!

'Tony'.....are you going to sell or trade any of your seedling plumerias? Can you let me know? I still have a lot of room to fill in my yard, in Ft.laud...Hurricane Irma knocked down my huge yellow plumeria, last summer, and a white swirl I had going,...about 5 feet tall, and bloomed all the time. So....I am looking to fill up a lot of empty land still. Hoping to do so with plumerias. Seedlings, cuttings,...but as you know, the bigger, nicer varieties, the more expensive they are. So...I have to get a start, at some size,...cuttings are easy to root and grow,but expensive, even on EBay. so any of those Maui Rainbows up for sale/trade? Thanks.

Just a quick note about the x-box you see in the first post. When the pic does not appear, sometimes, not always, but most of the time you can right-click and choose view image.

I have never seen the seedpods before. But they are beautiful.

Very nice pix, esp. of just those pale blooms.

I got a seedpod once (I hand polinated it, is that what you did?). I left it on the plant for a year expecting it to redden & fall off. It got red but never fell off. I finally took it off & checked out the insides. Messy endeavor, goey inside, I didn't pursue the seeds, which I now wish I had.

I'd suggest give it a good long time & let it (them redden up). Your seedpods seem kind of oblong, mine was very round & apple-like. Good luck!

Cool! I cross polinate my schlums all the time, but I keep forgetting the crosses and sometimes knock off the pods, ugh! congrats on the pods. You might be able to go to the C&S forum and find info on schlum seeds. If that doesn't work, try epiforums.

Another trick is to right-click on the x, select 'properties,' copy the http:// address, and then paste this into your browser's address bar. Follow the address, and it will either appear or not. In this case, it works!

When you hit your 'back' button, the pictures should be visible.
