Doyle Blackberry training?

Can Doyle be trained, pruned and trellised the same as other varieties like Triple Crown? I've heard Doyle described as "trailing" and that trailing varieties are not tipped for lateral growth. I much prefer the topping for lateral growth method and if it's not suitable for Doyle, I'll try something else.

My trellis system for Triple Crown so far has been to drive 8' T-posts into the ground 6' feet apart resulting in 6' high posts. Then a blackberry plant is centered between each pair of posts. However, I thought the laterals were to be tied to the wires, so I put in 6 horizontal wires spaced 10 inches apart for all the laterals. But it seems you only need to support the main canes, is that correct? Just two heavy wires would be needed, right? Let the laterals hang as the may?
