Relax guy, no problem Mon. You got new sod laid late in the season, you are going to have weeds so get use to it. Personally I would not worry about the Poa, but if it irritates you spray everything green with Round Up. Just make sure the Bermuda is dormant. In the meantime relax until the end of February. Last week of February or first week of March Apply a product called AMAZE. It is a long half life Pre-Emergence herbicide. Water it in and relax for a few of weeks. Once you are certain all chances of frost have past, get the lawn mower out and scalp the lawn down. I do not mean down to dirt, but enough to get all the dormant brown grass blades cut. Rake up all the debris and relax again for a few weeks until the weather warms up. Once you see some green sprigs of Bermuda growing after it starts to warm up, apply your first fertilizer application using a balanced fertilizer. Go to your local Home Depot and buy some Lesco 20-5-10 or 15-5-10 to do the job. Apply at the proper rate of 5 pounds per 1000/ft2 and water it in. From that point on find the BERMUDA BIBLE and follow the directions and RELAX.

quirky, don't lose faith yet. About 1/8th of my current lawn was common bermuda grass 2 years ago that spread from my neighbor's lawn. It's all bluegrass today, and since the roundup attack of 2 years ago, not one bermuda has returned. The lawn was sprayed by a Landscaping company, then after it died, I completely destroyed the roots system with a roto tiller. I wish I would have taken pictures of it them, because I know that seeing is believing. Having said that, I constantly have to patrol the areas adjacent to my neighbor's bermuda lawn. To matters worst, my neighbor is the type of guy that will let his bermuda grow to about 4 inches tall, seeds out like son of gun because it's a commong type, then chops it down to an inch leaving bermuda sticks and dirt. Then a couple of weeks later the cycle repeats. I have a plan, next spring when the bermuda starts to come out of dormancy, I'm going to spray Turflon at night to make sure stays a sleep a little longer:-)

Since you're in Cumming Ga, I thought you might want to check out one of the better landscaping companies in the State, who just happens to be right down the road from you. I'm not affiliated, but just wanted to pass them on as they do excellent work. As for your soil, it is typical of GA soil in that it has a very low exchange capacity. This means that it won't hold nutrients very well, which can be offset by using slow-release fertilizers, or by improving the soil with the addition of compost. My soil supplier is on the south side of Atlanta, but I'm sure SEL could recommend someone local if you're doing the work yourself. Also, it's been a closely held belief for years that Centipede doesn't perform well in a pH above 6 (I shared this opinion for 15 years). Texas A&M shed some new light on this a few years back with a mass-cultivar study in which they grew every cultivar of Centipede at a pH of 8.0. The trick was that they supplemented with chelated iron, otherwise the grass would have lost all color. The study proved that the issue was that iron tends to be less exchangeable as the pH increases, this leads to chlorosis (iron loss), which Centipede is very sensitive to. However the root systems in the higher pH levels grew much deeper. The lessen there was that with a pH that's just slightly acidic, like yours, you can actually have a more drought tolerant stand, but you will need to supplement with iron during the growing season (part of a normal centipede program anyway). The ideal pH recommended by most extension agents (Texas A&M included) is still 5 to 6, but again that is based on iron uptake. Ralph , Its the WG925 WORX 40V GT Cordless Trimmer & Turbine Blower Kit w/2 Batteries. Got the combo on a sale for $85 through worx on ebay last sept. I did a little googling and it appears ebay and the worx website is sold out now. The weedeater string spool lasts me about 6-8 uses when I use it. I went to amazon and bought a 6 pack for $8 in feburary. Was thinking it would last me the whole season but it wont as I put on my last spool last week. I do have alot of round rock as border around some of my lawnscape beds and I also used the trimmer to scalp areas in my bermuda lawn to the ground that had low spots. Doing this helped me see the hole better when I leveled it back in late march. I am thinking about using some weedeater twine I have in my garage for a while and seeing how it works? The line for life was little more expensive than what I paid on amazon back in feburay so went the amazon route. It looks like its more expensive on amazon right now($12.99)
